what would be a good muffler?

if I want to make a car louder and have a little more rumble to it what would be a good muffler to go with? hate flowmasters since everyone has one though I heard a set on a neon and they didn't sound half bad but it just isn't my thing. straight through muffler would be nice and I like the sound of them so far but I don't want to get pulled over by the cops all the time. what about if a put a glasspack style muffler up as a presilencer then a another muffler out back?

Hooker or Magnaflow. Hooker is the deeper of the two but the Magnaflow has a good 'bark' to it. I've got a Magnaflow crossflow style on my daily but on my race car I went with a single inlet single outlet Hooker Aero Chamber. You'll sacrifice some performance with the crossflow

Go with hooker . At first I was skeptical, after hearing everyone say its fairly quiet and stuff at idle, and it isnt really LOUD at idle, but certainly noticable..... idling at 500 RPM's with long tubes and no cat, if its outside the garage with the garage door closed, I can still hear it from inside the house, in the room thats right next to the garage.
This vid was from before we had gotten the car tuned at all (literally the day after I had the exhaust done), still had the edelbrock carb (Yes, I did notice a slight difference in the tone between the edelbrock and the holley), and it was idling at about 1,000 RPM's
In the vid you can see the ground clearance with the y-pipe for the long tubes, oh, and dont mind my interior......its come a LONG way since ;-)

Nothing wrong with a dynomax ultraflow aswell! They are straight through design for max HP. I think they are a little pricey though, if not the hooker would be good also.

i agree with mickman all the way. i opted for the dynomax ultraflo race bullet for only $38 in jeg's, no cat and heddman shorty headers. ran it out the pass. side. it's a barely legal straight through and its cheap. i've got nothing but compliments so far on the rumble and bark.

That's what I'm thinking. You're never going to get that Accord to sound like a V8 car will.

For imports, I like Magnaflow exhausts though. They sound pretty decent. Make sure you don't just get a muffler though..get a complete exhaust. Its those small pipes that dump into a big muffler that makes most imports sound like crap.

My cousin's 2.0L mitsu motor sounds AMAZING with his full 3" exhaust (no cat). Granted, his car is making 485hp at all 4 wheels, so your Accord might not sound exactly the same..

So the Hooker sounds deeper than the Magnaflow? I want a good muffler for my car and was thinking about the Magnaflow. I have a Flowmaster and it's loud but a little raspy. I want my car to sound more like a sbc with a carb or the way LT1 or LS1 sounds. TPI cars sound different. I want a deep, "controlled" tone, not a loud , raspy one. The SuperRam and larger TB should help a bit too. Should I get a Hooker (muffler) then? My car has no cats and Hooker Super Comp LTs.

Wish I had a sound clip of my 10.5:1 350 with LT1 heads/intake, SLP 1 3/4" shorties and Y-pipe straight into 3" Hooker Aerochamber exhaust (no cat). I love how it sounds. I think it's that sound you're looking for. It'd probably sound even better with your LTs.

I guess I can give it a chance. LT1s sound different than L98 though. I have a friend with an LT1 and a loudmouth and it sounds killer. I would be needing a transverse muffler. Does hooker makes one? Any ideas to get rid of that design and install 2 mufflers instead? Ground clearance is what bothers me the most.
