im not sure what it is called right off but it is a valve that stays closed or somewhat closed before the motor is warmed up to actually help it warm faster by keeping heat in the motor until it reaches operating temp. atleast that is what my exhaust guy told me because mine was roken and was rattleing and i thought it was my brand new catco cat so it turned out to be that instead. im unsure how to remove it but you coud always take the buterfly out of it. thats what im thinking of doing.

IIRC, TPI cars have a spacer there which looks like the EFE valve but which has no butterfly.

I have the edelbrock headers on the car and it still has it, I was wondering if I could just remove it and if they made a spacer for it. thanks
P.S would the TPI one fit?

Fuel injected engines have no need for it. IIRC, the EFE valve's purpose was to keep fuel from pooling up in cold conditions on carbureted cars.

Port injection cars have no need for it. It is intended to keep fuel from pooling in the plenum. Dry plenum, no need. Wet plenum, "need".
(I haven't been running it on the Camaro since 2001. Haven't run it on the '57 since...)

I removed mine and haven't noticed a bit of difference since.

No, the A.I.R. injection system is completely seperate from the EFE valve. The EFE valve is it's own seperate system, devoid of interaction with any other emissions system.
Sorry to be rude, but your questions are becoming redundant. Just go under your car and look up at the y-pipe near the passenger side. You'll see it.

if you dont want to get a set of headers (which you should), just cut the butterfly out and stick a bolt through the hole in it's place. worked great for me until he headers showed up.

When you say the tpi version will fit what do you mean? the headers or the spacer? I f I ever did get the headers, would it still bolt up to the cat back? I think the tpi cars have a bigger y pipe.

The L69/LG4 EFE valve, IIRC, are identical. The only difference between those two and the TPI version is that there is no butterfly. Either way, the valve would be restrictive. As others have suggested, remove it. The valve would have nothing to do with the catback.

The L69 EFE valve is larger than the LG4 valve.
The TES headers for LG4 make provision for the EFE valve, meaning the y-pipe is bent/sized for it. The TPI TES do not make provision for an EFE valve, since TPI didn't have it from the factory, so the y-pipe is bent/sized for not having it.

Ok, when I brought my cat back it was for a lg4 and meant to fit the headers, I think the tpi cars had bigger headers/y pipe, will the flange still bolt up where the y pipe and the cat back meet up?
