manifold gasket

manifold gasket

sorry, I just can't find the answer, fel pro gasket should the metal be against the block or the manifold?

Stock cast manifolds do not have gaskets. I am not sure what you are really asking though?

Stock replacement exhaust manifold gaskets are cardboard with metal on one side. I think the metal side goes on the manifold, but I'm not 100% on that.

should I even bother putting them on? they came with the gasket kit. the manifolds are in great shape

Was this for TPI cars? TBI cars don't have any manifold gaskets at all.

They came with the kit because its a generic gasket kit for all small block chevy engines. The early years, like 60's and older, did have exhaust manifold gaskets, so they still put them in the kit. You can safely leave them out with your stock manifolds, but they are required for headers.

Leave them out. The mating surfaces are real smooth on the manifolds, and the head. IMO, it would be more trouble than its worth to put them on anyway.

next time buy a fel-pro 1405 its a way better gasket
