Header Question, Dual cats

Header Question, Dual cats
After a few days of reading posts and searching the existing threads, I still dont have the information I need about headers for the dual cat setup. I am aware that SLP and Headman makes them, but i couldnt find the exact part on any of the online sites. Does anyone here know good headers for the dual cats? part names and numbers would be great.
Also, what would have to be done to use something like the hooker 2055's which are a single cat setup? and would having a dual cat setup be more restrictive or better flowing than single?

You can't delete a cat and be smog legal in California. Get the headers of your choice (I got the SLPS) and have someone fab up a custom dual cat y-pipe for ya.

That's not a very good answer, because whatever headers you get need to be CARB certified, and if they're CARB certified, they'll have the y-pipe. If they have the y-pipe, they have to be made for dual cats.
Hedman & Edelbrock are the only ones still making dual cat headers. SLP doesn't offer them anymore. Personally, if I had dual cats, I'd go with the Hedmans. P/N 68491 (check the Hedman site, www.hedman.com , for the application - footnote 145. The Summit site has the application wrong).

Of course the headers need a CARB EO. That's so engrained in me as a lifelong California resident I forgot to state it. I go as far as to take the EOs with me to the smog inspection. With the current tact of law enforcement here it would not be a bad idea to keep your EO paperwork in the glovebox.
The SLP headers do have a CARB EO and I had to come up with another solution for the y-pipe that incorporates dual cats. Most folks will want a more straightforward solution like those offering the stock in box dual cat y-pipe. I had the Edelbrock TES on my '89 Formula 350, it was a PITA to install but worked well. Don't know about the Hedmans, I don't have any experience with them.

I own a 1990 iroc 5.7 tpi with dual cats. I am having the same problem finding headers for this setup. After months of seaching the only two still on the market are edelbrock and hedman. I don't know how much mods are needed to fit to the dual cats. Both manufacturers require cuting and welding.

Unless you are planning to do the install of the headers and y-pipe yourself it is a job that a good exhaust guy could do.

90Z, I have the Edelbrock headers and dual cats. I actually had an old Edelbrock set on the car when I bought it. What the item consists of are 2 headers and 2-2.5" down pipe extensions. Your dual cat car has 2-2.25" pipes from the stock exhaust manifold to your cats. I believe the collector on these is around 3" (outside circumference) and the Edelbrock-supplied pipes are similiar to the ball-flange type fitting to the headers. The actual inside of the pipe is 2.5". You'd need to cut off the stock pipes aft of the header and weld up the Edel-supplied replacements.

SLP, Hedman, and Hooker are very good headers. Stay away from Edelbrock. Their design has too many compromises.
I have the SLP's modified to work with the Corvette EGR, and my father fabricated a 2.5" custom dual-cat y-pipe. Come over to the SoCal site and hook up with us and he can do the same for you.
