Does anyone have any info on the dynomax dual exhaust kit??

jegs and other places sell a dynomax dual exhaust kit. I can't find any pictures anywhere of how it looks installed. I want to know if it follows stock routing...or what it has for ground clearance. if anyone has info on this dual exhaust kit that would be great...thanks.

Yes it follows the stock routing. The mufflers sit out back in the stock area as well.I have yet to see them sit nicely in there though.otherwise the ground clearance is good. The two down sides are 1.the pipes are 2.25" and 2.the pipes are crush/kink bent.

That's not what I understand about it. It attempts to follow the "old school" systems that had a frame car to work with. The mufflers go under the rear seats, and don't fit all that well there.

Again, not what I uderstand. Ground clearance is terrible.

Now that I can agree with.

you said... "have yet to see them sit nicely in there though" what do you mean by that? Do they have single pipes all the way to the headers or is there a y pipe with a dual outlet? And how hard is it to modify the kit to work with shorty headers?

For kit #89009

There is 1 seperate pipes from each header back. This kit is actually designed to work with the dynomax/blackjack shorty headers out of the box.It can be modified to work with other brand shorties as well.It would require a little more work to work with long tubes.

As far as the mufflers, they sit on a 45 degree angle or so and offset, meaning one case sits about half a case length closer to the passenger side.Kinda funky how they sit in there. That is with a full case though, bullets may be easier to package back there. Both tailpipes exit on the driver side.

Crude pic..but it should help explain what I am saying?

Here's a link to a pic of the system

looks great... i'm definitely going to go with that set up just because it's cheap and ground clearance should be nice going through stock routing. I have flow tech shorty headers...and i'm hoping this system will bolt up. i'm also planning on running just straight pipes. I won't use muffles and if I do they will be a glass pack type.

NO NO NO!!!! Dont do it!
I have it it sucks really bad!
They both exit on the left side in the rear.
They have bad clearance, my pipe that runs infront of the oil pand is dented bad.
If you want it that bad, ill sell you mine for $40
I hate it, go with something else.
It DOES follow the stock routing.
It goes into the fenderwell a bit too.

I would definitely be modifying the system. I'm not going to be running mufflers with the. I'm running straight pipes and Those bends and stuff are hard to find. I'm also planning on shortening the pipes that attach to the headers so i get better clearance. does anyone else have any input on this system?

I just ordered it...the guy here and town said it would cost around 300 dollars to run dual exhaust and that's without mufflers...so i went with the dynomax kit...

You will have to tell me how you do. Ground clearance is pretty bad with the kit, But, You must learn from your own mistakes I guess Good luck! If you decide to put mufflers on, I have 2 dynomax super turbos I used 1 year 2 1/4" in out that are supposed to go with the kit from when I tore mine off, make me an offer if you do, they are collecting dust.

Yes it does run in front of the oil pan, see this pic how it runs along the cross member.

Here is a side shot, granted there is no manifolds to hold it up.
You can see the exhaust from the side even when it is held up.

Also both tips come out the same side in the rear, looks really bad
I cant get pix right now, car is up north in storage.

ground clearance does look bad...but I have my kit and I bought it with the intentions of modifying it. I am going to have a shop modify the pieces that bolt to the headers so it fits to where i can get ultimate clearance. The headers are made for the dynomax shorties and i have flowtechs...so it's not going to bolt up perfectly. I'm going to modify it so the pipes exit out on each side. I'm running glass packs so i'll have more room to work with. The kit i got didn't have kink bent bends...the bends on my kit are shrunk just a little which still isn't as good as mandril but it's better then kink bent. I'll get it installed and tell ya what's up.

There is a Camaro at the junk yard with that kit on it, ground clearance looked to be worse than my own true dual setup...

any good muffler shop will be able to hook you up with a better setup for cheaper. Just take them the mufflers you want to use and let them work their magic... if the dude says he can't do true duals then find another shop that can.

I have talked to exhaust shops....it would cost well over 300 bucks to do that exhaust system following stock routing.

Does it have to be an emmisions legal exhaust install at the shop in iowa? They do in MN. Maybe i will drive to Iowa towing my car there!!! Yay! I thought about having someone make me one then uninstall it so they arent breaking any laws. Then I go home and bolt it in myself. I am debating if I should Step up to 3" with long tubes with a moderate (450-475 hp) 6.6L... I might go with shorties and 2 1/2" side pipes. anyways, the dynomax kit really was a pita to install. Also had instructions for a suburban instead of the firebird/camaro ones. So i had to call dynomax and have them fax them to me. All the part numbers on the pipes were different and none of the pipes were lining up with the instructions. I was going ??? what? then on further inspection, the instructions were for suburban....

THe turbo mufflers did sound nice though. I Over all the kit sounded ok, but install, ground clearance, and design got F in my book. I called dynomax to ask if I could get a new pipe from the bent oil pan pipe. They told me no and because it was made by Black Jack exhaust, they couldnt support it well. Oh well. I will do the next one myself or professionally installed.

no emissions testing in Iowa.. but the shops won't cut out a cat converter... if you show up without one they'll weld anything in it's place tho

how do you insert pictures? I have my duals on and it went in great...i modified stuff to get the best clearance. alls i have left are the rear mufflers and i'm putting glasspacks on. I also modified it so the pipes exit out of each side instead of both on the left. the modifacations took a while but it was worth it. ground clearance isn't as good as stock but it's not to bad. so far i'm happy and could not have got a simalar system for less then 300 at a shop.

Any pix of this system yet, seems they may of updated it, on Jegs they say it exit's infront of the rear tires, and I dont see any crinkle bends.

I'm about to move, and I need to get this POS on the road before I go
