There is a direct-fit muffler that flowmaster makes. Don't get a glasspack, I'd imagine it to sound bad.

Its the 80 series, but it your putting it on a stock I pipe youll need to get an adapter to fit a 2.5inch inlet.

Completely forget any idea of a glasspack on your v6

look on summit or Jegs. It's direct fit. I know adapters are cheap too. Why not just get a cat-back?

Do NOT put a flowmaster 80 on a v6 5 speed car. I made that mistake and it was the worst thing I ever did to that thing. Before that I had a Dynomax super turbo muffler and that thing was great. The 80 was obnoxious and rattly. A true fart pipe for a domestic.

I disagree... maybe on the iron head 2.8 it sounded bad but it was pretty decent on my aluminium head 3.1.. also pretty good on a worked over 3400 SFI.

Loud as can be but still has a good tone.

Depends on which glasspack you get.

I AGREE.
The flow 80 on my old V6 was HORRIBLE.
The resonance was between 50-60 MPH where you always cruise at.

glasspacks in general sound horrid. I do not care what brand or what they are on...

I have the flow tech glasspack and i enjoy the sound although the performance isn't as good as my summit turbo which is a really good buy, 15 bux great performance and a decent sound. I switch the two mufflers out, the glass pack is for sound and looks (red) and the muffler for performance.

i have a dynomax ultra flow 2.5" mandrel bent cat back on my 2.8 sounds like an 8 at idle and its sounds pretty good higher up in the powerband, if your going for looks the muffler for this kit is "polished up like chrome" i paid around 300 for the kit, but i see you can step down to a super turbo dynomax catback for like 165 too...go with the ultra flow, and get a little more bang for your buck with the larger mandrel bent intermediate, and the mandrel bent tails...

At anything over idle the flowmaster sounds horrible on the 2.8/3.1/3.4/3.8, I know because I have had friends with all the above combos. Actually, the 3.4 sounded the worst imo, it was ridiculous.

3.4 or 3400?

again, i can see the iron head RWD V6's sounding a little odd because of the lack of exhaust flow and just the overall nature of the V6... but when you hear one on a 250+ HP Gen3 '660 it sounds a bit meaner. Don't get me wrong, i know it's loud, drones @ 2500 RPM and really pisses off my neighbors (which is why i'm changing it) but with a little power behind it it's not too bad.. sounds pretty mean above 6200 RPM too

Now, if the original poster were to keep the stock cat converter and maybe add a resonator before the muffler it would mellow out the tone alot. Some of the cavalier guys have been known to stick a glasspack right after the cat to help out with noise as well...

Bottom line, it's hard to make a v6 sound good without an engineering degree and a Crane H272-2 cam

Custom catback set up so I can basically put any muffler i want on the pipe exiting on the left side.

you can buy glasspacks with dual outlets i know the car max by my house sells them otherwise youd have to get a custom y pipe made. but dont waste money on glasspacks. i put one on my 91 rs and it was timid as helll barely any sound outta it and i paid over 250 bucks to have it installed. but thanks to the lifts at school it didnt last long. eventually i ripped it off in favor of no muffler but just a cat and that was it, no pipe to the back or anything. i had no problems running it like that for a little over a year until its demise on 8-15-05.

Here is a quick clip of a built 3400 with a catco ho-flow cat and a Hooker aerochamber (Crossflow style)..

http://www.superdave81.com/AV/Hooker1.wmv

At idle it's very quiet, under load it sounds mean...

It will change a bit after I finish my headers and redo the whole exhaust in 2.5" mandrel bends, might end up quieter at idle and louder under load..
