Factory Cat?

Does this cat look original to you? My RS has 170,000 miles.

Hmm. Well I dont need to pass smog for another 1.5 years..and by then I will have a whole new exhaust setup. I'm thinking about gutting this puppy out, but I'm afraid if unbolt the intermediate pipe I'll never get it back on the same again. Thoughts?

I'm not sure how long it will be before I can get a new system though and I fear this may be hurting my HP and my mileage. I only get about 10 mpg combined and that is not improving with my PROM tuning. What are the chances of it never being the same again? I think i'm gonna do it...if it wont go back on i'll have my cousin weld it.
