Heard of Aero Exhaust?

Tried a search, but could only come up with aerochamber hits.

I was checking into getting some exhaust work done on the tow vehicle, and the shop recommended an Aero Exhaust Turbine muffler. Looked at a cutaway, it has a center hole that is as big as the inlet/outlet, with an airfoil cone at the front of the body. According to their literature, sound attenuation is accomplished when the inner and outer exhaust streams recombine via the perforated tube at the outlet. All stainless steel, inside & out, no packing or baffles.

Interesting concept, if it actually works. I normally would dismiss such products due to the name, hype, and technical misnomers in their description, but it's got me wondering.

Picture here 3030 - Truck and SUV Performance Exhaust - Aero Exhaust Performance Muffler , if you click on the "Show Magnifying" button, you can drag a window over the pic to show the innards. There are some sound clips on the "See it Hear it" button.

Well, apparently it's an unheard of.

I went ahead and had one installed. Went from 2-1/2" in/2x2" out to 3" in/out. The cat is still 2-1/2", stock down-pipes. I had planned on having them do a new y-pipe with 2-1/4" downs to 3" cat with this muffler and 3" tail, but they upped the "Y" and cat price by $80 from what they quoted Saturday, so I just had them do the cat-back (I'll try the "Y" myself sometime, perhaps after puttin LB9 manifolds on it - this is a full-sized van that originally had a LG4, if you can believe that).

I was really suprised by the tone. It's got a deep tone to it, but not loud. You can hear it a little more when you get on it, but still isn't much louder than the open element air cleaner noise - certainly a lot quieter than it was when the cat outlet pipe fell out . Interior noise is absolutely nil. Seems a bit peppier, but that's really hard to judge. I'm sure the larger y-pipe would have made even more of a difference.

It's got me thinking now about pulling out the Flow from the Camaro and trying one of these mufflers with a single 3" tail. If you're into loud, this isn't the muffler for you, but if you're into sleeper with power and a quiet interior, it just may be the ticket.

Oh, it ain't cheap. But, when was the good stuff ever cheap? At least it has a lifetime warranty.

The claims are probably a bit overstated, but we have noticed a difference, even with the small stock manifolds, downpipes, and cat. It would be nice to get headers and decent-sized y-pipes on it.

I'm thinking about getting one for the Camaro. I've emailed them with questions twice, they haven't responded either time. That's a bit annoying. I like the design concept, though.

I guess, then, that they spent so much money racing that they can't afford to answer emails. . .
