has anyone burned a valve with a dual setup??

I am thinking about duels and I am just wondering if anybody has ever burned a valve by having duels.

I don't know anyone with 3in. exhaust and on top of that can bend it. Thats why single would be hard for me to get. The shops around here do only 2.5..

Can I go with a single 2.5 pipe instead of 3? I have a 305tbi 170hp stock.
I am adding headers, no-cat, glasspacks---- Running a cool air dual snorkel air breather, high flow air filter ---- hypertech chip---

Thanks--

Why would you "burn a valve" because you have a dual setup?

I haven't with my dual 3 inch exhaust. Friend hasn't with his dual 3 inch, another hasn't with dual 4 inch, yet another hasn't with dual 3 1/2. Oh and can't forget the friend who runs open headers and hasn't had burnt valve yet after hundreds of passes down the 1/4 mile.

Has anyone ever burned a valve due to lack of backpressure? Or, overly large exhaust systems?
I'm curious where/how this idea started?

I don't understand. Burning a valve? What exactly does this mean? How can you 'burn' a valve?

I have had a couple of people tell me with duals or a free flowing exhaust you risk burning a valve.
I think they said it was because of no backpressure???

I read threads on this site saying that espically TBI may burn a valve. I think it said something about the egr valve also sticking.

Just wondering if it might be true.

I'd be especially interested as to why your intake would have anything at all to do with it.

I bet Top Fuelers and such with individual exhaust runners burn their valves up all the time then, huh. Oh, and so would anybody running open headers
And mustangs while your at it. They came with factory dual exhaust.

Oh, and take a peak at the backpressure stickie on the top of this board. That'll clear up that term for you.

I ran open 3" longtube headers on a stock L03 TBI for about 4 months no problems at all engine wise. My hearing suffered alittle.

i recently had dual exhaust put on my 305 TBI and i havent had any problems concerning burnt valves. i know someone who "claims" to have burnt valves due to a lack of backpressure from his cutout, but i had one for a few months and nothing has happened to mine. from what i understand about the dual exhaust setup, you wont burn any valves unless you run too big of pipes...even then im not positive you will

this may sound funny

but my understanding is have valve problems if you dont run enough exhaust. case in point if you ran your car with manifolds only. reason being is that the valves will cool off to quickly and warp or bend thus unseating the valve causing combustion to pass by the valve causing a burnt valve. But this is a pretty extream situation. So as long as you have some pipe on there you shouldnt have any problem. The pipe will cool slow enough not to let cool air to get to the valves. Too large a pipe might cause a problem but thats a big might. So I think to say duels will cause a burnt valve is a little far fetched. And dont bring up open headers if you have long tubes you have plenty of pipe and who would run open shorty headers dumping out on the firewall??

I ran open short tube headers for a few weeks, as I was looking for a competent exhaust shop, and for break in of my cam.
Ya know, it didn't burn a valve (that I know of). huh, whaddya know eh?

Running open shorties or stock manifolds does not mean that you WILL burn a valve but it makes it more likely especially in cold weather. Just like if your car over heats and you pour cold water in it with out it running to circulate what water is already in it, you are likely to warp a head, dosent mean you will its just simply a higher chance

Youll never burn a valve running open headers

You on the other hand may WARP a valve by sucking cold air up to the redhot valve

Thanks for all of the info. on this guys. I have decided to go with duel exhaust. After reading all the posts I understand a lot better about the valve burning thing. Its a big relief to know that people have ran headers with no piping and still was fine.

Kinda new to modding- Thanks Guys
