first, i dont know how much noise you can deal with but if your not running a cat it will be loud, first try to unbolt the cat and drive aorund for a lil bit and see how you like it then if you liek it cut the sucker off

Is the cat just the tailpipes or what is it the thing that goes over the axel? well even if i do cut it off and when i get the money to get a new muffler i can just take it to midas and thell charge only like ten dollars to put it on right? well im gonna take a look at it so where do i unbolt then is it before the axel or is it just the tailpipes,
Well it didnt sound bad in those youtube videos, it sounded loud and aggressive...kinda what i want, and when it cost zero dollars thats pretty good
I still want to hear other people opinions tho, thanks

It will sound like crap to some and good to others, i say crap, try it and leave it that way if you like it.

have you already gutted that CAT, if not try that first, you can just unbolt the flang and then break it apart inside, then stick a vacume hose (shop vac) inside and pull all the ceramic out. It will deepen the tone and free a few horses

ok well the camaro in that youtube vid sounded like a 350 and it sounded like a gutted cat too, you're not gonna get loud and obnoxious from a 305 unless you pull the whole exhaust off except for the manifolds.
it sounds decent without a muffler on it, but if you cut the muffler off you're going to have to take off the tailpipes toothe driverside tailpipe is connected by a hanger but the passenger side is just supported by the connection to the muffler

i cut the muffler off of my car and put a glasspack in the intermediate pipe and just let it dump over the axle. it sounds better than whaty it sounded like with the muffler on but if you can wait until you have money for an exhaust that would be a good idea. it's really your car and you can just do whatever you want to with it. personally i would rather have a nice new catback on my car but just like you i don't have a ton of money to spend on my car, by the way the glasspack i put on cost like $20 on summit and then the reducers to connect so for around $25 i put together my own exhaust. which is only temporary until i have money for a full exhaust. but that's gonna be around $1200 for headers and all

I would get rid of the muffler but leave the cat on. I currently have the
Flowmaster single-in to dual-out, and I hate it.
I just bought a 3" Magnaflow bullet muffler from Summit and a Flowmaster
Y-pipe, and I'm planning to have it installed this coming month with a 3" cat
back pipe. I'm going to have the shop put the bullet along the driveshaft area,
near the rear passenger side, and then have the 3" pipe go up and over the
rear axle and in the stock muffler place I will have the Y-pipe, which will split
from 3" into a dual 2.5" tail pipe setup. So I have yet to experience how it will
sound compared to the lame Flowmaster 80 series. Don't get me wrong, I love
Flowmaster 40 series, but the 80 series just doesn't sound the same on our
3rd Gen's.
Just my two cents.

Oh you didnt know??
If you dont know what a "cat" is......if you dont know what to do with the tail pipes (which come off with the muffler and taking one hanger off). Sell the car and buy a bike then put a baseball card in the spokes, you'll be laughed at less.......or read up, learn how to do things then charge your friends!!! make money for your own up grades

you could drill holes in your muffler,, hell then you could "tune" it to your liking by drilling more or less holes, and yes you will get jacked by the gripe (cops) and no I dont recomend any of this, but if you want b loud u want 2 loud! start with 2 or 3 half inch holes , not loud enough, drill more! at least its all there this way
----------
dude!? hes 16 at least he want a loud domestic and not a obnoxious import, hes at a influential age so we should embrace kids like him, cuz they are gettin hard to come by!

well then I would honestly try to suk it up and live with the quite one untill u can aford a muffler, cuz really the performance may get deminishd a bit, your off idle acceleration may b stumbly, and it may affect other drivabilties, u cud go to fleet farm, they carry flow master, or u could get a glass pack, but that may be 2 red neck sounding, but I really wouldnt recomend losing the hole muffler, it would b OBNOXIUOS loud in the car and sound kind junkie out side, and plus the cops will mess with you ,giving you a fine that would probobly be more costly than a legal and loud muffler,, and dude, your car rocks, I had one that was just like it and when it was done, it looked like a million bucks and sounded like it too! and it didnt cost me much! but remember what I said the cops r not the ones u want attention from!

i have my factory cat, no muffler, and stock manifold, it doesnt sound half bad, i got a 1' peice of pipe from autozone and a peice of flex pipe and left my factory drivers side tail pipe in place so i have 1 tail pipe out the back, my buddy has a 04 mach 1 mustang with flows and his car is still twice as loud as mine, i doubt u will get any grief from the cops, i do plan on cutting the mid pipe and puting in a force pro series muffler for the fact that they dont make one to go in the factory location

I don't think anyone thought about carbon monoxide that will get into your car while you sit at a light or just sit there idling, but I suppose that wouldn't bother you either!

Re: Cutting Off Muffler Anything To Be cautious About?
drilling holes in the muffle has got to sound worse than no muffle at at......And no the carbon monoxide isnt goning to hurt you LOL you know how many people run a set of dumps before the axle on their vehicals???
The cats on these gm cars muffle the sound alot, if you take the muffle off its not really even gonnna be louder than your average aftermarket muffler so dont worry about getting pulled over. Dual pipes will make it louder, it will kinda echo the sound out, at least dual pipe with no muffler will have some tone to it, go and find a pipe of y pipe and hook it up to your pipes or just spend some freaking money on some exhaust work.
holes.... lol
