General Exhaust Question...
I have a stock 1986 Camaro Z28. Is there anything I can do to it right now to make it louder, without paying money? Just wondering. I apologize if this is considered a stupid question.

Re: General Exhaust Question...
yea, cut off the exaust right before the muffler.....LOL sawz all time LOL
some people cut it off before the cat also, but thats real loud and can sometime gut fumes inside
or the old school red neck trick to get glass packs louder, is to run the car like a SOB and as soon as you get home cut it off and shove a hose in the exhaust and turn on the water for a few seconds let it bust out the baffle material in the muffler

Re: General Exhaust Question...
The stock muffler is supposed to slip right off the pipe that goes over the axle. It is all one piece with the tips attached. Loosen the clamp, spray with PB, try getting it off lol. Mine is pretty much siezed on after 17 years tho, didnt wanna come off.
Another thing you can do, is drill holes in the muffler. A big 2" hole saw, strategically placed, will work wonders for volume. However, you will be left with a ruined muffler, and 2 exhaust tips that dont push smoke lol.
Finally, if you have a welder, you can empty out the stock muffler. You would have to make a few cuts on the stock muffler, peel back the skin, snip out everything you find in there, then weld the skin back up air tight. That is more of a bitch than it would be worth though.

Re: General Exhaust Question...
All the above will work. A note of caution, however: Loud becomes old very quickly.

yea, cutout would probably be your best choice, becuase theres really 2 diff kinds of loud in my opinion, one loud that sounds good and one loud that sounds like crap and all raspy. youl get tired of the loud raspy sound real fast trust me, wont be able to hear much inside the car and all that. it sucks lol.

Hey man, If you cut off your muffler, it wont be much louder then with it on unless you hollow out the cats too. Mine rusted out and broke off right at the muffler entrance and its not loud at all.

Re: General Exhaust Question...
If you can't/dont want to afford to do it rite...........DON'T mess with it. A quieter car is better than one that sounds like Big Red Neckerson cause you did somthin stooooopid like cut holes in you're muff. An upgrade can be had for as little as $219
