Exhaust too quiet...
Okay so i bought my car with a flowmaster muffler and it was really quiet so i cut it off and i drove it like that with just a intermediate pipe. It sounded a little better but it was still quieter than a vaccum. When smog time came around i put on a dynomax catback, now i never know if my cars running or not...I'm thinking my cat might be clogged? If it is is there a way to get it to be deafining loud with a smog legal setup? I was thinking high flow cat and striaght pipes with no muffler.... Any suggestions?
BTW: Its the original cat at 190,000 miles...

Hey I am in the same boat as you man. I still have the origional factory exhaust my on my car form 1990.
I was thinking about doing a side exit exhaust with no muffler, which would be loud, but not real loud. If you want it real loud, you should get some emission legal headers and a high-flow cat. That will help alot. Also, if you build a motor with higher horsepower, the noise will come.
I will leave you a few clips to ponder for a little:
Here is my factory exhaust:

Here is CaliChevyLover's car, with the exhaust cut off right after the cat:

It's weird to hear someone with a LO3 it's amazing how different mine sounds. Mine sounds like it's supercharged, it has a higher pitch whine to it.
Heres an old vid of my car with no muffler, just cat and intermediate. Don't worry this was the day i got my car, it's not disgusting anymore, its all restored now.

Re: Exhaust too quiet...
i got a 3in full exhaust with a flowmaster 80 dual 3in exit and its loud as can be, im always making people
, and i still got my factory manifolds on it (but have no cat)

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=28487107
both videos are with the windows up, there is plenty of more videos on the my other videos section, the only one outside video of the car is of my air horns and you cant hear the exhaust because of the horns and i was infront of the car and the open breather and power master alt wines like a super charger
(yes i own headers for it and have put headers on 3 other thirds, but for some reason im to lazy to do it again)
the factory cat will make a car QUIET as can be, as you said a vaccum cleaner is louder LOL, i would go with a high flow cat, and a set of headers to make it louder

Wow. Yours sounds amazing! Did you say that was with no muffler, or was that video with the dynomax, or the flowmaster? It still has the really quiet idle like mine, which is what I want to change the most.
Also, what kind of aircleaner do you have? That (or a vacuum leak) could be making the "blower" noise. Unless you have it procharged or something lol.

Yeah, its definately stock (bought it from an old lady, car was parked for years i think)

You cant see in the picture, but I think on the bottom of the muffler, it says something like "GM #########" i dont know what numbers they are tho.
