anyone running these mufflers? just looking at these in a catalog and from their size, 4" by 9 3/4" with a 6" wide body, they would have to be pretty aggressive sounding.
im thinking for my new exhaust set up, the hedman long tubes with the x-tensions back into two of these mufflers, the 3" ones, then over the axle and out the back, think it would be to loud?

Re: cherry bomb extreme
I had a similar design on my previous Camaro ("Purple Hornies").
Loud? What?
Yeah, it was deafening when you hit the throttle. Almost as loud as open
headers.
I don't recommend them for the street; you'll have cops on your bumper
in seconds.
I had mine connected off the headers with a small
extension in between, and exiting the side of the car just before the
rear tire.

OK, he's looking at these:

Mine were similar to this style of Cherry Bomb:

I still believe that Extreme muffler is going to be loud judging by the design.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
Yeah you were thinking of the origional style cherry bomb, which was a glasspack. Most all glasspacks are real similar.
Since then, cherry bomb has merged with a few other exhaust companys I believe. Becasue I used to have the Pro series mufflers, but I bought them when they were only IMCO mufflers, and were still $29.99 each. For thirty bucks the quality on the IMCO's was better than flowmasters.
Now cherry bomb offers most of their mufflers under their own name too, and a few catbacks.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
On an f-body, I doubt it. They make a catback, but none of their retailers will sell it. Their mufflers now are almost as expensive as flowmaster (at least the camaro / firebird one is). Like I said, when I bought mine, they were the 3-chamber Pro series, and they were $29.99 aluminized. Posished stainless was about $60 each. And an f-body was like $50/$100 i think.
So you might be the first to try.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
So im wondering now, is it possible to run dual pipes over the axle? like in the same place the pipe is ran in all the cat backs, but on the opposite side? ill have the headman long tubes with x tensions and i might try to have my local exhaust shop run the dual 3in pipes over the axle, then put 2 of these mufflers on kind of where the stock muffler goes and just attempt to tuck them up in there, would this work?

Re: cherry bomb extreme
I have seen dual pipes run over the axle - its complicated. What gets in the way, is that panhard support brace I think.
But, yes, its been done before. If you want to spend the $$ to do it, is another story.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
Well if your exhaust guy will run true duals, custom bent, for 300, hes a keeper. Around here, the custom exhaust shops want 400-500 for a stock location catback and muffler, they would want 800-1000 for true duals, all crush bent.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
yea i talked to him today,300 but thats crush bent, so i dont think i want that, so now what im thinking is i already have hooker shorties with y pipe stock cat and a hooker cat back, so im thinking of getting the hedman long tubes with the x tensions and just buying some j bends from summit and myself a y pipe and getting rid of the cat, and just going straight into the 3in thats already there
or
my second option would be to make myself a y pipe, but put the muffler in question where the cat used to be, and use my pipe thats already there from there back and just get rid of the muffler back there and somehow build a y pipe and split it or just one 3in exit, but in my opinion, that would be kind of *****, so i think i would try to split it, what should i do?
----------
why did it bleep out r i c e y? *****?

Re: cherry bomb extreme
you can buy something from hawks. they sell the brace that has a slight bend in it to allow 3" over the axle on both sides.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
i bought a Cherry bomb turbo muffler for my camaro because it didnt have a muffler when i boight it. it was dirt cheap and i needed it to pass inspection. so thats why i got it. that muffler sounds terrible. it doesnt even have a nice tone to it or anything. its quiet. i thought it might be at least abit agressive.
that was my 1st cherry bomb muffler.
if your ever thinking about getting the turbo ones. dont get them. unless you want a quiet car :P

Re: cherry bomb extreme
Not true. AutoZone sells it. I ordered a Vortex cat back kit and substituted a Flowmaster 80 series muffler. Everything slid together and the only problem I had was tryin to fit the pipe up over the rear axle. I bent the hanger a bit and it fit. Topped off with band clamps, been on the car for 2 years now. Everything was stainless mandrel bent and is lifetime warrantied.

Also, how much did it cost at autozone?? And is the flange that connects to the catalytic convertor 3" with the ball and socket type?? Thanks.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
The 2006 catalog I have shows different part numbers, but it looks the same. Everything was 2 3/4" ID I think. The tailpipes were less than $20 a piece and the pipe from the cat to the muffler was less then $50. The flange was the ball and socket type and bolted to my stock cat no problems.I did my whole systems for around $215, which included the Flowmaster 80 series muffler and the clamps. The down side to this kit is you have to order the pieces separate. But, if one piece fails due to damage or rust, you can order just that piece, and everything was lifetime warrantied. I can double check at the store this weekend to see if the old part numbers are still good.
Here's the page from the 2006 catalog. My kit is the top pic, 83-85-"H" engine code.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
Thanks for the picture. I dont think the part # is valid anymore, because I think Cherry Bomb bought out "Vortex" and added it to their priduct line. Now, it would be called the "cherry bomb" cat-back like I showed you, and would use a chambered muffler similar to the flowmaster.
I wish a 3" catback could still be had for that cheap. I mean one that you could put a flowmaster in, with no customization, cutting, or welding.

Re: cherry bomb extreme
if anyone finds a clip of this muffler on a 1st gen motor post it up, all i find on the net is dodge clips and crap like that. im looking for a fairly raw sound but not farm truck straight pipe sound. This muffler may be just right, who knows.

Here is the best clip of a magnaflow catback I could find. Basically stock motor, just headers, cat, and exhaust.
