melting #7 with slp headers
I've managed to melt the #7 boot again.
I have already dented the tube a bit to gain clearance and i have shorty plugs but its just not enough. Im thinking about putting some header wrap around the tube, just in that spot. Do you think this will help? how good is header wrap at reducing temps when its not wrapped around the entire length of the headers tube? I know its a warranty killer, but so is denting the tubes so im not concerned about that.

Header wrap is definetly worth trying since your other option is changing headers. I wouldn't think ambient heat from not having the headers completely wrapped would be enough to melt the boots.

Why not spring for a set of Jacobs Ceramic boot plug wires...They are not cheap at $200 a set...but a few of my friends own them and they seem to work well.

those ceramic boots are pretty damn big too arnt they? I dont really have the room.
I've had these headers for a couple years, but only a little while with the new engine and heads. Im going to swap them out for some LT's at some point but for now i have other things to spend my money on. I going to give the headers wrap a try, its pretty cheep.

Fold a piece of the wrap and wedge it between the boot & the tube. I've been doing that for nearly twenty years with my SLP tri-y's. The addition of a kelvar sleeve to the folded wrap works even better.

My #7 plug touches my header I just put a kevlar sock over it and no problems yet.

those kevler socks are like the fiberglass socks? I will probably just pick one of those up
