short or long

ok,do i need longtubes or will shortys be enough.550 hp motor, not gonna really be street driven(to much anyway)and running no cats or muffler.what i'd like to do is run 3" duals right off of them to the back and into some 2nd gen exhaust tips,2.25 inlet i think.i'd like to go with shortys simply because the price factor, looking at hookers, and they're like 150 from summit.so what do you think?

Re: short or long

i think shorties will choke that motor down. IF its indeed putting out 550hp then longtubes with 1.75" primaries will be needed hands down.

You'll give up power with 1 5/8 tubes and more so with shorties. V8's dont really like short length primaries

oh it's putting it down,i've been in the car it came out of and you couldn't sit forward when it was hopped on.now,as for the shorties, does it really matter that much when i'm gonna just put a 3" pipe on both of them?i'm just looking to save a little bit of money to get it up and going asap.

Re: short or long

if the shorties have a 3" collector you can do that, but still gonna give up some power. how much? its hard to say but i think it could be 30-40hp on the top end.

best shorties would be SLP's 1 3/4" tubes or Dyno Don's 1 3/4 shorties from this site. If you could purchase his setup that would be awesome, and still cheaper than hooker's 2210 longtubes. 700+ for coated longtubes is very very pricey these days
