header sealing?

im having a huge problem sealing my new headers to my 305tpi camaro. I put on a set of mr gasket and they blew through, I was looking at summit and idk what to go with, There are round port primarie headers with D port cyl heads, do I get the gaskets that are D port or what? also if anyone can get a link where I can buy them I would appreciate it, thanks

Re: header sealing?

Did you clean up the mating surface of the cylinder head before you put the headers on? Try cleaning them up with a wire brush and 180g sandpaper. Also try copper gaskets.

About what shape gaskets to get, I would get what matches the port on the head.

Re: header sealing?

trying to seal to different style ports is going to be very difficult. either way you go your going to be blocking a portion of one of the ports off. try making a custom gasket. use some paper if you can and draw a template of what you need.

Re: header sealing?

I think its D port, What ever a stock 86 tpi 305 has. I might just go with aluminum gaskets.
I took off the old gasket to see if it burned or not. Well it did, The exhuast blew out the side on the two outter cyl ports. i tried using a gasket that i knew worked on my 350 but it just leaked more. that one had the metal covered by the high temp paper?
