headers without y-pipe or cat

anyone running headers and NOT using a y-pipe or a cat.If so,what brand and how did you run your exhaust? straight back or bend?
There are no emission laws in alabama so we aren't using cats or the y-pipe.Looking for some ideas.

not looking for fast, looking for ease of use.
i hate all of the newer do-dads they use on cars now.I want it basically like an old 60's car...nothing fancy and easy to work on.

Re: headers without y-pipe or cat

well it was my car he was talking about. the exhaust was really simple. took the shop less than an hour to set it up, but it scraped on steep drive ways. i got rid of the car awhile ago, but if i got another third gen i'd do it again in a heart beat.

Headers without a y-pipe or cats would be long tubes open to the air? That's gonna be loud.

And just so you know, federal emissions laws cover all 50 states, even if your state doesnt check them. Cats are required on street cars.

Re: headers without y-pipe or cat

I have shorty hedman headers bent to a flo-pro muffler. This is just temporary for another week or two until I get my y-pipe and flowmaster muffler. It does NOT sound that great and I think I will have a noticeable gain with a y-pipe over my current setup.

Re: headers without y-pipe or cat

i have heddman long tubes connected to the heddman x-tensions designed for our car real simple thos connect to a h-pipe that has 2 moroso spiral core race mufflers. exits just behind and under drivers seat. if you wan't it a little quieter add turndowns. maintained about a pop can of ground clearance. does it scrape at times - yes. enough to hurt anything - no.
