Exhaust cut out

i was looking at a 2.5 in exhaust cutout from jegs for $26.99. i'm assuming that this doesnt come with any type of valve just a plate to cover the hole. is there any thing that can be used as a valve without having to spend $200? perhaps a mechanical valve instead of an electric one but i've never been able find one

Re: Exhaust cut out

Mr. Gasket makes a cable one...Summit probably carries it, but this was easier to find as an example.

I wouldn't suggest getting the cable operated one. I have heard they rust horribly. To be honest using the plate is not a problem at all and only takes about 10 seconds to take off. Only other option that is viable IMO is to actually buy the electric motor for it.

im running a plate one and truth be told i dont think its worth 200 dollars instead of just laying down and taking off 3 wing nuts. the cable ones biggest problem is they don't seal nicely and you will get that exhaust leak sound. also with the electric ones some cheap ones will not close when they get hot because the valve will expand faster then you cut out.

Yeah I agree with you somewhat. If I were to put a bigger cam in my car then I would want one for neighborhood driving or if I was around cops. Otherwise depending on my hours at work I would want it so I didn't wake people up early in the morning or late at night. Otherwise mine used to stay open all the time.

Re: Exhaust cut out

I had a cutout with a plate. It was in the I pipe, and they are a pain in the butt. Everytime you have to crawl under the car to put on or remove the plate. I now have an electric cutout (McCord power plate) and it is much more convinient! It was only $140 new, but you can find them in the classifieds here cheaper.

I have not had any issues with mine leaking, I followed the directions to a T, including tourqing the mounting bolts. If you over trq them, that's when you get leaking issues.

Go ahead and get it with the plate, if you don't mind laying on the ground to put it on and off, cool. But if you find that annoying, you can add the electric valve anytime.

I do yes. My catback is quiet until about 4500 rpms and above, and I love how cams sound through long tubes an ory and a cutout.

Cutouts in my mind are better than duals because you can close them and with a good catback will be much quieter without the performance loss.
