How to find kind of Hooker shorty header
I was at the junkyard the other day and I found some hooker shorty headers on one of the cars there. The owner of the junkyard said he wants $100 for the pair. It seems decent so I'm going to get them. The look good, just a little surface rust around the bolts, and they are either painted with a high temp silver paint, or they are jethot coated... they don't look like bare metal. Is there a part number stamped on to them, or how I can figure out what kind they are? I only know they are hooker competition headers because I saw the tag on the one header that says "Hooker Compition"... do super comps say "Super Compition?"
Mike
The other thing I just remebered is there aren't AIR fittings on these headers. Is that a problem? Will I fail emmisions with out them?

Re: How to find kind of Hooker shorty header
my guess is no but i am not a TPI guru. hooker says they are for off-road race use and they specifically call the ones with air tubes "emissions compatible".
P.S. there is a big debate about this but i think the general consensus is that all teh emissions stuff on your TPI are meant to increase performance and removing them only hurt you. but it sure is hard to look at that engine and not want to pull that rats nest of hoses and crap outta there

How hard would it be to put AIR fittings on these headers?
Is it on the little badge on the drivers side header? The one I saw was an oval shape and said Hooker on top and Competition on the bottom but I don't remember seeing anything in the middle of the oval... maybe I just didn't look close enough.

Those headers are probably the Hooker 2460's. Those are competition headers and they dont have AIR fittings.

So is it still worth getting them for $100?

If you search for "2460", you'll see a lot of people have used them. Many of those have found out that getting them installed and hooked into the rest of the exhaust in a decent fashion costs more than the headers did when new.
If you can get all of the exhaust off of the car for $100, it might be worth it (if it was done in a decent fashion). If you have exhaust fabrication skills, equipment, and supplies available at no or low-cost, they might be worth it. Being ceramic coated (if that's what they are) makes them slightly more attractive.
Putting A.I.R. tubes on them, if they are ceramic coated, will destroy the coating. If they aren't coated but just painted, it still isn't easy (it's a welding-thin-material thing).

if they are the 2460 headers, the painted steel ones sell for under $200... i got a pair today for $160. if they're coated they are worth a bit more.
this is what the 2460's with the ceramic coating look like:

Re: How to find kind of Hooker shorty header
The Y-pipe on the car was crushed... as in maybe a 1/4" thick at the smallest point, so I can't nab that. The cat back looks ok, but there are some dents. Based on what I remember, they do like the picture el_muerte posted of the ceramic 2460's.
As far as equipment to make a new y-pipe... I have a welder and grinder and those kinds of tools, and the skill (I think, the thinnest thing I ever welded was 1/8 inch thick), just not the tubing to make it with.
