Dynomax Yes Or NO?
Looking to put a dynomax cat-back exhaust on my 88 iroc. its a 305 v8 TPI. good choice yes or no? Also wondering about swapping out my catalytic converter with a straight pipe, will this change the performance or sound of my camaro? Im only 16 its my first car and just looking for some advice. Im new to camaros but id like to learn as much as possible.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
The Dynomax SuperTurbo was my 1sr catback kit. It lasted about 7 years B4 one of the muffler baffles dislodged inside. But after I swapped the muffler, I still used the Dmax pipes. That was until last year which means they were on for 11 years.
Stuff is good quality and decent for the price too.
The SuperTurbo is mellow. Not real aggressive sounding.
Removing the cat and putting a pipe in place will increase the overall sound of any exhaust.
Be wary of the SES light coming on tho if its still ECM controlled vehicle.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
Mellow...not really louder than stock, but a deeper tone.
Now removing the cat and adding headers both opened up the sound alot. But still very tolerable at idle and crusing.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
I won't recommend Dynomax. I took it off my camaro about 3yrs ago and went with flowmaster. (i didnt even notice that it was aftermarket until i got under the car to change the exhaust) it was quiet. Flowmaster is nice but i wish i would have did the magnaflow. I did 3inch all the way back.
Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
Dynomax ultra flo is a great flowing muffler on summit. You said that you were 16 so the dynomax will probably be to quiet for you. You need to look into flowmaster, spintech maybe hooker or magnaflow.

Go with Flowmaster if you want a more aggressive V8 sound. You'll love them 40 series.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
somewhere on here there is a sound clip section. I'm twenty three and live in a small town (30,000) and i know if i put on flowmaster i would be cop bait. I know a guy in town who is running them and cops are all over him.
Start mellow than later if you want louder go to a flow master muffler and keep the pipes. Also 2.5 is all you really need. Finally keep all emissions stuff on. You caN GET A HIGH FLOW CAT AND SUCH THAT WILL IMPROVE FLOW BUT KEEP YOU LEGAL. trust ME GOT RID OF MINE and no difference. And now when my car starts and my windows are down mt eyes burn lol!
keep it simple and it will last for a long time.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
I have a hooker 2460s,offroad ypipe, and 2.5inch dynomax catback. Seems fine to me, I will prolly upgrade to a 3 inch system in the future, would have put a 3 inch sstem on the first time, but I didnt have the time to modify my ypipe. My only issue is it seems like it can get a higher pitch than normal sometimes, not like v6 high pitch, but definitely not the way a V8 should sound.

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
I have a dynomax superturbo catback on my camaro with a v6 and I hollowed the cat and I love the sound. It is more mellow at idle but once you step on it it gets much louder and still has a nice tone. Its not gona be as loud as a flowmaster but I would still go with it.

This is what I am looking at. Any idea how loud it would be on a 3.5 exhaust with no cat? Right now I have a 3 inch dented edelbrock exhaust which I know is really restrictive. Any ideas??

Re: Dynomax Yes Or NO?
I've had the Dynomax system on my car for about 10 years now and it is a nice system that is reasonably priced. I built a 400 motor that I dropped in last summer and so now I just ordered the 3" Flowmaster system to help with the breathing of the exhaust gases. I had alot of complements on the way my car sounded with the Dynomax system, as the muffler got older, it got louder and I used Meg's stainless tips that helped with the sound. I am looking at getting that in your face sound with the Flowmaster sytem with the nearly 450-500 horses I am now running. I am ready for spring already and especially the cost of gas at this time!!
