It's not functioning at all? Does your engine not have a computer?

Are you sure it's an O2 sensor? There's no O2 sensor in the cat, it's in the driver side manifold.

On a V6 I think the O2 sensor is in the y-pipe, not the driver's side manifold. There's a hole in the pipe for the O2 sensor to screw into, on stock exhaust systems.

Re: What to do with O2 sensor??
Definitely, the O2 sensor is in the Y-pipe on the 2.8L...so, why was it just left dangling
. Even if you installed the headers from Pacesetter (which I believe are the only aftermarket headers for the V-6 (other than a custom job), they have a provision for an O2 sensor - in the Y-pipe.
If the previous owner installed headers and put in a heated O2 sensor (three wires instead of two), then maybe you have some wires dangling. So, if I remember correctly, if you have a heated O2 sensor in the car, then one wire (white) goes to ground (back of the engine or firewall, for example); the black wire connects to the O2 sensor wire to the main harness and the second white wire connects to a 12V source (on when ignition is on).
Is that the case?

I'll have to check but most likely it goes into the y pipe.. I took the car to the local exhaust shop to fix the egr valve.. i mentioned to them about the O2 sensor and they just left it there.. I'll crawl under the car tomorrow and see if theres a spot in the y pipe.. theres no headers just 2.5" pipes to a flowmaster with dual 2.5" exit pipes to 3.5" tips

Re: What to do with O2 sensor??
okay scratch that previous post.. i just crawled under there and theres a single 2.5" pipe (maybe 2.25") running from manifold to manifold and connected to that is a 3" pipe ran straight back to the flowmaster. There was no opening for an O2 sensor. It is just a single black wire with the O2 sensor attached to it. Sadly the wiring harness is such a hack job i've been strongly considering replacing it, but im trying to hold off for a few more months till i swap in the 3.4

Re: What to do with O2 sensor??
Even with the 3.4 swap, you will still need an O2 sensor. I would have the exhaust shop weld in a bung on your Y-pipe so you can put in an O2 sensor.
Having the O2 sensor should help your emissions and your driveability as well.
