hooker and hedman headers

im looking into getting a exhaust set up for my 85 z28. I dont want AIR cuz i dont need it in PA as long as i have a visible cat, so i was looking at the hooker 2460 hedders. My problem is i need a y-pipe, and ive heard really good thing about cutting the hedman y pipes for a 3 inch cat back exahust. Currently im running a stock 305, but im building up the car in prep for a 400+hp 383.
is the hooker y-pipe that is sold seperatly for the 2460 the same as the y-pipe for the 2055? cuz if it is ill just go with a all hooker set up.
ive read that the 2460 is a thicker metal then the 2055. Does that affect perforemance enough to offset the price diffrence (around400$)

Re: hooker and hedman headers

No, the y-pipes are different. The 2055 y-pipe is a better design.

Yes you do need the AIR pipe though. Federal law requires them even if state law doesnt.

If you're really going to get a 400+ HP 383, then a set of 1 5/8" headers wont work as well when you upgrade. Why not get a set of 1 3/4" headers now from Dyno Don? Send him a PM or email for info. You can also search this Exhaust board for "dyno don headers" and see his posts and pics.

Re: hooker and hedman headers

I plan on having my own y-pipe made, so will the 2460s work for me? Do they come with the AIR tubes at all?

Re: hooker and hedman headers

You are gonna want to check on the AIR thing. I'm in PA and couldnt pass inspection without it. If your in one of the counties that requires a visual emissions check, you definitely have to have all the AIR stuff connected. I had the pump on my 92, but not the tube that connects back to the cat. Unless you've got the car registered as a classic or have had it a few years and drive it less than 5k/year.

How much is it going to cost you to have the y-pipe made and the air tubes installed? Probably about as much as the 2055's will cost, which come with air tubes and a y-pipe.

Re: hooker and hedman headers

Do a search on ebay one set of NEW Coated Hooker Headers 2052-1HKR they are made for 1985 and older Camaro's. They are very much like the 2055's. He is asking $199 plus shipping buy-it now of $399 I would have jumped all over them they just need to much work to fit my 89.

Here is the item number: 270343972532
