yet another exhaust question
I know this is getting old but I have another issue.
Recently I ordered a Flowmaster 40 series muffler because I hate the way my Magnaflow catback doesn't have any sound whatsoever. Upon receieving it, I couldn't install it because it would not fit on account of it having only two ends. So I sent it back, wasting a bunch of shipping and restocking fees. After doing so my mechanic told me there isn't any Flowmaster mufflers that will hook up to that system. They said the only way to open up that system is to hollow out the cat which they did. However, even though it did open it up considerably, I'm going to have to buy a new cat now because I can't stand the god awful smell.
My question is, am I just SOL with this system? Is my only option to have a car that sounds like a muscle car is to just rip this Magnaflow system out of this car and buy a whole new system? It seems to be a dead end road with this. I have never heard an afternarket exhaust system this quiet. Five feet away from the car you can not hear a thing. I've looked for Flowmaster mufflers thinking maybe I could just swap that part of it out but each and every one of them I look at have different ends coming out of them than the muffler that's on there now.
So am I just screwed with Magnaflow? I hear about people running them all the time and I've heard exhaust clips that sound a lot nicer and louder than mine but mine is muffled beyond anything I've ever heard before.
Thanks for your help.

Re: yet another exhaust question
Ive never had any experience with either the magnaflow or flowmaster exhaust systems but did u look into the 80 series flowmaster? i dont know any of the actualy sizes but the 80 series is flowmasters cross flow muffler and it is what flowmaster uses on their cat-back system, try doing a search and you will find sound clips and peoples opinions on how they sound

I've read that the 40 series is the loudest and best sounding one out there but all those look much different than the muffler that's on my car now. Mine has one hole coming out one end off to the side and two on the other. All the 40 series ones I looked at have one in the middle with two on the other side.

I think the 80 series FM is the louder of the 2. The 80 series has a muffler with the single in/dual out openings. I don't think I have ever heard a quiet flowmaster, but the sound is kinda played out. Hope this helps a little. Search for the single in/dual outs on ebay, there are pics you can match up to what you have.

I looked up the 80 series and it does look similiar. It looks just like the picture on this page, http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/sound.html
In other words, is my mechanic full of **** about the 80 series being super quiet? And will it work with a Magnaflow catback? I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff obviously. Does the brand of muffler have to match up with the brand of the rest of the system?
Re: yet another exhaust question
Im sort of a new too, ive been looking through the site for the right exhaust for my car so i dont realy know if the flowmaster will match up wiht the magnaflow but from what ive seen it looks close enough, however like i said before i have no idea for sure sorry i cant help more there has to be more people who have changed mufflers on their own cat-backs

You just need to match up pipe and inlet sizes.. You can just switch out the muffler and reuse the magnaflow stuff. I think the 80 series is very muscular sounding.
