Hey all, want to know what you think of my single passenger side dump side pipe I made for my camaro. Exhaust is: Headman Shorty Headers and Y pipe, No Cat, 3" diameter Stainless Works muffler, and a exhaust bend taken from an old 3" Y Pipe. How does it sound? and any ideas on how to make it even better?

The fit was hard, also. Took a hammer and bent up my pinch rails, and bashed in my floor to fit the 3" muffler in without it being close to the ground. Also for hangers, I said **** them and welded the muffler with small spot welds to the pinch rail, in multiple areas. She doesnt rattle, though is loud... loud loud loud! The tone at idle is agressive, but not too ear drum piercing. The rev volume, however, is almost like open headers.

Let me know what you think, how it could be better, and maybe ideas on how to make it a dual side pipe, one on each side instead of just passenger dump

 

its sounds pretty mean..must just scream when you floor it!
cant really see it in vid. pipes on both sides would be cool too

She sounds really mean and screams when I just get on it lightly. At the moment I just suffer a stiff gas pedal so its hard to really go anywhere lightly, hehe. It is unregistered, so I been puttin around the parking lot at work, though if all goes to plan, it might get registered tomorrow! Then I can show you guys what it sounds like going down the street.

 

not trying to rain on yoru parade, but those welds are going to break....and soon. the engine will move ever so slightly every time you take off (hard or not) and the more you beat on it the faster the welds are going to crack. overall its kinda neat (not legal though me thinks). sounds better than the manaflow setup i wasted money on (that didnt fit might i add).

 

Yeah the welds are going to start cracking, I know that, in fact the reason I Did not solid weld it completely with beads was because I know about flex, I also am most likely going to install a flex pipe, if I can fit it, between the Y pipe and the muffler to help with giving it flex. For now she is spot welded only, and the muffler is not welded to the tip or the pipe leading to the Y, giving it a little more flex. the tip is also welded to the pinch rail at the curve. I am still nervous about the welds so I am also going to install a couple straps under the muffler, to hold it up and catch it if the welds break, so I don't lose it on the street.

Headers and Y Pipe: $360
Muffler: $140
Bits of 3" Piping: FREE!
Total Cost: $505 for complete exhaust

 

Hey guys, just an update. For those who couldnt see the side pipe, here are some images of my camaro, and its side pipe. I added a tip just today to make it look even better. You can see the way its spot welded to the car in the images, So far, even with a beat run, no cracks or signs of cracking. Monitoring every test drive. Problem right now is just a coolant leak at the gooseneck (keeps blowing gaskets! >.<!)

 

looking good! sounds pretty good too! looks like you did a pretty nice job. i like the side exit exhaust...i'll be doing something similar with my car soon.

Yep! its the drawback, but I don't really care since its only gonna melt around the tip. Kind of make its own opening. I can trim it and clean it up later. I drove it home today, and loved it. Problem with the car now is timing I think... the exhaust is already bluing by the Y pipe, and the tip blued a little bit and melted the side skirt.

 

Did you use cats by any chance?

Nope, I do not use cats at all in this design. There is no room with the way I routed it.

An update, by the way on this, running good, one weld cracked but I was expecting that one to, the rest are holding strong. I might install a flexpipe in there to cut down on the stress on the welds. Its winter time so its time to start working on the camaro in the garage, Adding autometer gauges, and I might need to work on the engine, she is smoking under heavy accel, so its rings arent healthy. Though I can deal with some oil burning, it really is not excessive at the moment.

 

I want to run dual cats and dual muffler i'm going with the dynomax race muffler and 2 catco cats.
