Got an awesome exhaust guy bending this up for me.........this is where we are at so far, can't wait to hear it

 

well thats a new way to run the pipes. how is it on ground clearance?

 

lol thats exactly why they need to be run that way......everything is tucked higher than the cross member, I lowered the car 4" in early 1986 so the exhaust has always been a problem, it's always taken a beating and has always been a source of major HP loss between the small pipe and small mufflers.

 

This is what the ground clearance is on it.....you can see the drivers side flange with the crappy exhaust I used to have on it.

 

man that height would get NAILED by the speed bumps in my area. Their freaking everywhere and my lowered Cam scrapes like no tomorrow.

 

lol its been at that ride height for about 25yrs....we have been alot of places with it and you just get use to looking ahead and picking your angle of attack, have only got it high centered once in all those years. I do have to say we have been to the Woodward Dream Cruise 4 times (last time in 03) and the roads in the Detroit area have to be the worst I have ever seen.

That's some pretty clever routing. What size are those pipes? There doesn't really seem to be a way to put a crossover on with this setup though. I can't really tell with those pics but how close is that pipe to your slave cylinder? Do you think you'll have issues with heat soak?

 

Basically the exhaust has been routed that way since 86 (just crappily thrown together though) with no issues from the heat.....the biggest holdback all this time has been the lack of a good muffler that would fit and finding a guy willing to take the time to do it right, now with these new 3" thick 50 series it will work. The pipe is 2.25 out of the collectors then stepped up to 2.50 aftr the crossover.

 

Now that is some outside the box thinking. Is it somplete yet? Any sound clips?

Also, what transmission is that? Looks wierd.

 

Stopped down today and he said should be done in the morning......they have had a busy week and stuff like this comes second to the high profit stuff but he does awesome work so I can wait.....am anxious to hear how it sounds though......trans is a T-5
