is it possible to run a 3 inch dual cat y pipe?
I'm looking at doing my exhaust soon Ive already got a borla catback (came with the car). I purchased some ceramic coated headers shorty style.
But wanted to run a 3inch dual highflow cat setup. But when I looked under the car that seems like it might not be some doable. Anyone else running a 3 y pipe dual cats?
also If its possibly how much did it cost you to have it made up.

First off, anything is possible. Second, you only need a 3 inch Y pipe then to a 4 inch single pipe if over 500 horse or so. So this would probably be just to have it. Third, having just built a 2.5" Y-pipe on my brothers car, there is no way I would try 3 inch. Not on shorties following the stock exhaust route.

True specially because one of the pipes its really close to the oil pan so if you put a 3" there u might be in trouble i wanted to do the same but after lookin at the amount os space i decided it not to do it with shorties

yeah I wasnt sure if it is possible. I then worried if it was the seems like it would put a lot of heat radiating to the oil in the pan which wouldnt help.
Well what Would your recommend for a l98 which hopefully within the year is putting around 350 rwhp.
I'm alittle skeptical of 2.5 just seems small but I'm no mean an expert on this so. chime in your ideas.

2.5 inch Y pipe, all mandrel bent, into a 3 inch catback is perfectly fine for what you want. I believe hooker even makes a 2.5" mandrel bent Y-pipe, ceramic coated, for their shorty headers if thats what you have.

i run a pair of dyno dons shorty headers which are 1 3/4 primaries and 2.5 collector and my motor runs strong and puts out 480 hp. there is no point in spending a lot of time and money into a 3 inch y pipe that you don't need. if your making more than 550 hp or so, going to true duals would suffice better

I would say no, I have a 3" stepped down to 2.75" and there's no way anything bigger would fit. The 2.75" just barely clears the stock oil pan.
