can you run without o2 sensors?

ok well i just bought long tubes for my lt1 swap but it doesn't have holes for o2 sensors... Yet. And i wanted to bolt these headers on my 305 for now to route my exhaust. But lt1s use 2 o2 sensors andy 305 one. I dont want to put my 305 sensor in in fear of seizing in so just wondering do i really need it? Ill prob put it in just wondering

what u mean plugged in but hanging around out of the header???? same thing because it will be sensing the oxygen on the atmosphere so it will send a signal that something with the emissions on the exhaust is wrong

I think you can get collectors w/ the O2 bungs already welded in. I just do not remember where I saw them.

Re: can you run without o2 sensors?

Just weld a bung into which ever header is closest for the wire to reach, IIRC the driver side header. I relocated mine to the pass side, unless you get an 02 simulator, which I do not believe they make for our cars, but hell, I could be wrong.

O2 simulators are for 96+ OBDII cars that use O2 sensors before and after the cat. The sims replace the rear (downstream) O2s, and they just send a signal to the computer to verify that the cat is functioning correctly.

Re: can you run without o2 sensors?

You can run your car without an o2. My 91 does just fine. Actually to be honest its just hanging under the car for the time being. If the battery wasn't completely dead I would run out and grab a quick video of it running like that.

Re: can you run without o2 sensors?

actually my 3.1 runs best without the o2 plugged in. when i plug it in, the car doesn't want to run, likes to stall, and has no power. any ideas why?
