3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
Im putting a 3" cat-back an my 90 305 and also wanted to put a 3" converter and Y-pipe. Headers arent in my plans and from what I've read searching the old threads there isnt a Y-pipe made for such a setup, but I found this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-65930/ on summit and it shows it going from the stock 2 1/2 collector to a 3" out. Does anyone know if it should work with the stock manifolds or see any other issues with it?

Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
I looked at that y-pipe before purchasing the Magnaflow y-pipe, (that I'm still waiting for...its on back order). Anyways it looks like it should work with the stock manifolds as long as you have the original passenger side exhaust flange to connect it. Other than that it looks like a solid well built piece.
Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
Are you guys stupid or something?
Do I really need to point out what's in the fine print on the page you linked?
Use in conjunction with Y-pipe crossover, sold separately, to assemble complete unit for replacement on Edelbrock tubular exhaust headers.
Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
It's a valid question. How stupid do you have to be, to not read the catalog page that tells you what the part fits? It's spelled out on the page that it's for headers. If people open their eyes, and take a second to READ before posting, they don't look like idiots on a public forum.

Call me whatever you want Drew, but you'll never see me being a JACK*** to people like you are, on a public forum.

Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
im just curious why you dont get headers and a y-pipe combo... the manifold will never move enough air that a 3" y-pipe would actually do u any good..other than to say u have a 3" y-pipe...

Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
I read the note on the catalog page but was under the impression the headers ended in the same location as the stock manifolds. Also I didnt know if the stock were 2 or 3 bolt flange. After all thats what this forum is for, to share and gain knowledge. I was not sure so I asked.
Here are a set of typical thirdgen manifolds, and a set of typical thirdgen headers to illustrate how far off their Y pipes would be...

Note that the headers dump much lower then the manifolds, and that the collectors are completely different.
SLP used to make a mandrel bent Y pipe for single cat cars, but they were never really popular, and have since been discontinued. Magnaflow seems to be making similar products now (Magnaflow 16450). Walker and other similar companies offer some stock replacement Y-pipes that may flow better then stock due to improvements in bending equipment. But, as mentioned the manifolds are the big restriction. Increasing the size of the pipe, and crush bent pipes with mandrel pipes you're not gaining much. That $200 is better spent towards a set of headers that fixes both the restriction of the Y-pipe AND the manifolds.
You probably have no clue how frustrating it is to watch this forum go down hill. In ten years this forum has gotten dumb as hell. People are too lazy to do a few searches, or even read what's right in front of them. If I come off as rude, it's because I'm disgusted when people refuse to help themselves.

Damn Drew, don't be so harsh. When I bought my car when I turned 19, I didn't even know what a carburetor was. I learned as I went, and now can swap motors, change head gaskets, or whatever.

Re: 3" Y-pipe with stock manifold?
Just so you know, almost every manufacturer of headers for our cars has a different idea of how it should be done. A Y-pipe for Edelbrock headers isn't going to bolt up to SLP or Hooker headers, etc. None of the headers available for thirdgens bolt up to the stock Y-pipe, and none of the Y-pipes for headers will bolt up to the stock manifolds.

You didnt come off as rude, you WERE rude.
I've been following this forum for a couple of months and have seen you spend more time on here posting than most of the moderators (yeah I know you used to be one) and you almost always find someone to abuse daily. If its such a "dumb" place to be, why dont you find somewhere else to spend all your time. We will be just fine without you, there are plenty of other knowledgable members that are capable of guiding us jr. members and unlike you, they do it with class.
Kindly please, stay out of my future post.

Leaving the forum because it's exasperating pointing out the obvious would only make the problem worse. Enough knowledgeable members have already stopped participating. That's why the blind are already leading the blind around here.
You can certainly choose not to read what I have to say. No one is forcing you to read my posts. However, as I've already alluded to, each thread has potential value to more then the people currently discussing the topic. The real beauty of forums like this is that people can search existing threads and find information without having to wait for a reply. For that reason I will jump in any time I feel I have something to add to the topic.
Would you rather have spent $150 on a Y-pipe only to find out after you've received it and torn apart your car to install it, that it doesn't even come close to fitting, because the only people answering your question are clueless... Or would you rather take the doofus slap to the back of the head for asking a stupid question, and receive the correct answer?
I just saved you $150 and a pain in your ***, and all I asked was if you missed the fine print. A thank you instead of a lecture about my bad attitude might be in order.

Who's miserable?
I see a lot of humor in this thread.
You're the one who's miserable and annoyed. Once again, stop expecting everyone else to make your existence comfortable. If my participation on this forum bothers you, then don't read what I have to say. There's a little red X in the corner. You can even change your preferences and ignore me if you choose. But I'm not going anywhere.

You're taking this all far too seriously. You asked for help, and you got it. You can say whatever you want, but I'm not the one on here at 3AM crying because someone called me stupid. I don't like or dislike you, this "pissn match" is all in your head.
