The Catco-9118 has a 3" in/out and I know the 3rd gen 305 TBI did not have that size. However; I am using that Cat/size and it is direct fit for those pipes.

Re: cat question

Go with a"high flow" Magnaflow Cat. You wont find any thing with a better reputation. I have one on my Camaro and it passes with no problem This Cat. I am showing you is coming from my favorite distributor called Summit Racing. It will fit your 1990 Camaro.Be sure to call them and double check just to be certain. Ask for their free catalog. On this link =
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-93456/ when you get there click on "application box" .Scroll down the page and you will see that it lists your car.

Re: cat question

We California people have to use the more expensive OBD2 cats on our cars, even with OBD1 emissions controls. But that only if we replace them with newer cats. The existing cats are fine for now.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as an OBD1 or 2 catalytic converter. What are the differences?

How would they ever know if your cat on there is new or been there for years?

California just has to be weird about cats. You can't legally put a cat on a pre 1975 vehicle in California because it's considered "tampering with the emissions system" yet you also can't replace a normal cat on a 3rd gen with an OBD1 either. Go figure.

Re: cat question

I dont know exactly what the differences are, but I would guess the OBD2 cats have more "stuff" in them to remove the harmful particles.

No they dont know how long your cats have been on the car. But companies such as Jegs and Summit will not ship new OBD1 cats to any California address. The only way to get them is to ship to a non-California address.

Re: cat question

I'm using Magnaflow cats from 2008 before the change in the law.

If your current cats are good, you can leave them alone.

But if you have to replace them with new cats, your only choice in California is the more expensive OBD2 cats.
