headers? got a set and a lil clueless now..
ok so its a 85 IROC Z 305 TPI, well im new to this computerized crap lol i prefer carb but anyway i got a really nice set of shorty headers brand new, now my car has a smog pump and o2 sensors, my headers dont have provisions for either of these, so, wat if i just took off the smog pump and o2 sensors, would it have any effect on how it runs since its TPI other then the SES light on?
i cn get pics of the car n headers if anyone wana see lol

You can run fine without the air pump.
You cannot run fine without a functioning O2 sensor unless you get a custom tuned PROM for open-loop operation only.
You can easily get weld-in O2 bungs on ebay, then put the O2 sensor into the collector area of one of your headers.
Re: headers? got a set and a lil clueless now..
so if i remeove the smog pump i wont have a SES light and it wont run right? as long as i have the o2 sensor on?
Re: headers? got a set and a lil clueless now..
smog pump aka AIR removed your car will be fine
O2 sensors removed and your car will run terrible and throw codes
so, keep the O2's.

Not from the smog pump being removed, no. The smog pump pumps air (hence the fancy acronym) into the catalytic converter to help burn off any left over fuel. Since the only O2 sensors are before the cat, the ECM never knows if this works or not so it won't throw any "rich" or "lean" codes. On a newer OBD2 car with O2 sensors both upstream and downstream from the cat, you wouldn't be able to remove the smog pump without it throwing a code.

You can burn it or drill it. I'm pretty sure a 1/2" drill bit will work. I can't remember what size I used when I did mine.

Careful when you drill it or cut it. If you screw up the threads by hitting them or getting it too hot, youll need to weld a new bung on.

Ive drilled that hole out a few times. Its not that hard. Just hold the drill straight. I'm pretty sure I use a 5/8" drill though. I think 1/2" is a little small. If you do bung up the threads, an 18mm spark plug thread chaser will work to clean them up.
