Re: Dynomax bullets??

If you get the exhaust to exit out of the car and not dumping underneath, it may be alright. I had a pair of magnaflow 4x9 ovals coming out of a LT 3" x-pipe set up that dumped before the rear axle. Ungodly loud. I'm now using a pair of Summit glasspack dumping in front of the rear tires and it's 10x's better.

Re: Dynomax bullets??

Not all bullet bodied mufflers are identical in interior design & resulting loudness.

My Dynomax bullet muffler on my daily driver really wakes up under WOT, but at part throttle is is quiet & at 65mph cruise? VERY quiet.

At idle at a red light, windows down, radio on? I've mistaken it for being so quiet that I had thought the engine had died.

My bullet is under the rear seat & the tips exit out from under the rear bumper.

Re: Dynomax bullets??

bullets can be loud if the motor is higher compression. On my turbo motor its very quiet for what it is. The turbos quiet it down alot but I have dual 3" out the back bumper with bullets in the last straight section under the bumper running into tips. It sounds good, idles and cruises with good tone. Sounds like a typical mild performance build muscle car. Its got alittle cam, volume not too loud, but still aggressive when on it.

Now my 11 to 1 compression 383 all motor car was very loud. I had dynamax ultraflo round which is like a bullet but fatter case with more insulation for sound reduction. Single 4" exhaust and a 16" long muffler. It didnt do much to muffler. Helped alot over open ypipe but it was a very aggressive sounding car with alot of volume. I had a dB meter and cold idle was around 90-92 dBa with hot idle somewhere around mid 80's. Thats pretty loud.

I also had a borla xr-1 clone called dynatech split-flow. Straight thru like a bullet with hardly any insulation/packing. It was even louder. I liked it but wasnt good for a street car.

Depending on your motor bullets will be loud. Best chance is to run them out the back bumper to get as much length of pipe as you can to deaden sound and put the mufflers back there and it should help quiet things.

Re: Dynomax bullets??

if you go with longtubes, the best place will be under the driveshaft in that tunnel region somewhere. Short H will be easier to do but can fit an x pipe there. Magnaflow makes a few cheap xpipes that seem to work well.

Since you have 2460 shorties, run them down the stock location. How the factory Y pipe runs, follow that path. Put the X or H where the stock cat would go. Theres a big bump in the floor pan for that cat, so it has great clearance for a mini x or H kit. Then run the pipes down the driveshaft tunnel, staggered for best clearance. Up over axle.

Keep 2.5" pipe size unless your much over 550 hp 2.5" will feed most motors and be cheaper/easier to pipe under the car
