So when i drive everytime i change gears my exhaust rattles. I belive its my heat shield right above my cat. anyone have any ideas on how to stop the rattling. its very annoying.

 

i had the same prob, & i took off the top heat shield on my cat , cus it was embarrassing to rattle everwhere i go. i plan on doing a complete exhaust system (headers, y pipe, the whole 9..) soon. it worried me that it might mess something up to take it off, but ive been on hour & a half rides since i took it off and i havent seen any sighn of anything being affected by me taking it off.

 

To see if that's actually were the rattle is coming from take a ball of aluminum foil and wedge it between the cats top shield and the shield on the car. If the rattling stops than that's the spot.You could make some small adjustments to the top shield or I guess you could just leave the foil there.

 

So today i removed the heat shield right above where my cats once where. I just got back from a test drive and it fixed it. Not one rattle at all. Now my question is would it do any damage driving without it on? Any long or short time effect? i don't have cats on the car and its a duel y pipe setup.

well bad news for me. Had the heat shield off but still here rattles when im at low RPM's it sound really bad. Its I catless exhaust system

 

I have the same problem I think anyway.To me it seems to rattle only when there is a load (like accelerating, or going uphill). I think it may my exhaust manifold gaskets. I plan on replacing those and seeing how they help. Maybe it's the same with you?

 

I don't think it my manifold gasket because the noise is coming right under the car around the ypipe or I Pipe.

 

Maybe the bolts are losoe where the y-pipe meets the manifolds?
