Is 3" overkill on a mildly worked L98?

Is 3" overkill on a L98 that has a mild cam and a ported intake with slp runners?

What shortie headers and exhaust setup would be best? Are the subframe connectors i have in there gonna make replacing the exhaust a pain in the ***?

3" singe? Not at all I would go

3" true dual most likely yes.

I am using a 4" kit on my mildy worked 355. Cammed, Decked, single plane intake, KB Pistons, Rods, ported 882 heads. I love it.

shortie headers into a y pipe to a single high flow cat to a intermediate pipe to flowmaster to 2 outlets...

where can i find a 3" y pipe that will bolt right up to shortie headers?

You cant you have to custom make one. Or do 2.5" into a 3" pipe. Nothing wrong with that.

the size of your exhaust is more dependent on your header size. 1 5/8 primaries should be enough, you'd always like to stay alittle smaller than be too large or you'll lose torque without gaining anything on the top end.. and for the rest of the exhaust 3" shouldnt be a problem at all

and its definitely easier to do the duals vs. fabbing a y pipe

The stickies at the top of the page may provide some ideas.

Why shorty headers?

Re: Is 3" overkill on a mildly worked L98?

I was the same way with the Mustang since it's a full time street car, figured shorty headers would be less of a pain. Gonna eventually pick up Stainless Works long tubes and catted X with deleted tubes. Cats just for inspection, offroad X any other time like always.

Check these things out.

No fabbing there, but it's expensive for their full stainless steel headers and Y pipe. I think around $1,300.

This is the setup I want for the Mustang. $1,609 for it with cats, like another $45 for their cat delete tubes. Only want the cats to pass inspection.

Scratch that, just realized that Y pipe from them is for stock manifolds.

Most shorty header kits have a matching ypipe. Hooker 2055's have one but have 1.9-2.0" collectors on the header. Its a ball flange so the ball cup is the limiting factor. It can be cut/ground out to about 2.25" which is what I'd do for more flow. Y pipe is 2.5 into single 3"

Single 3" is great for a mild L98.
