Hooker 2055HKR vs Heedman and flowtech?
I'm looking at the Hooker 2055HKR headers on summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2055HKR/?rtype=10
I'm also looking at the Heedman 68470 with their Heedman 17478 Y-pipe
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HE...RO&prefilter=1
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HE...RO&prefilter=1
And also the Flowtech 11102FLT with their 11102YFLT
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-11102FLT/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-11102YFLT/
I was reading on other posts and it seems as though most people get the Hooker 2055HKR's. The price of the other 2 are much cheaper than the combo. Are the Hooker's that much better? With my budget in mind I can afford the Hookers, but I would prefer the cheaper ones for money left over for additional add ons. Any help would be great. Thanks

DO those other 2 have the AIR tubes like the 2055 hookers? Thats a price adder to have AIR tubes. Hooker makes 2460's that are nice with a larger collector I think, and cheaper but dont think they come with a ypipe. They come in a variety of coatings too. Didnt know that til just now.
The others I dont think are coated and dont have AIR so they are alot cheaper.
Try asking Jet-Hot if they have any of those headers in stock and ceramic coated with their coating. Tell them you are a thirdgen.org member and heard about them through this site. They gave 10-15% discounts last 2 sets i ordered, which were 2005 and 2008 I think
Been awhile but they had that discount going.
I like coated headers, they look better, run cooler and last longer

I didn't realize the other ones didn't have the AIR tubes before I asked. I'll probably go with the hookers anyway. I'm thinking about getting rid of the cat as well, would all I need is an intermediate pipe for where the cat goes? Or I can just hollow it out and not have to worry about getting more pipes.

Single cat? I hollowed mine out. YOu can put a piece of pipe there to replace it but since catback exhausts bolt to the factory cat flange, its easier to hollow the cat and keep it there.
Since you dont want the cat there, you wont need AIR system either

If you have not decided yet look at dyne dons headers. That is the best for our cars. I had hookers and wish I went dyno don.

Yes it is a single cat. In my county in my state they don't check emissions, but the stuff they check needs to be visible. So I'm assuming i would need them?

What county in PA?
If doing visual, yes you will need AIR and the line to the cat still needs to be there. My car is still in PA, but I get around that check with the sub 5000 mile a year clause.
If you drive less than 5000 miles a year, they waive emissions checks both visual and tail pipe sniffer.
I've been doing that the last 5 years or so. Hollow cat will pass visual. I had mine on. When I went 383 with longtubes and stealth ram, i kept it under 5000 miles and had no AIR, no smog pump, no cat and it passed fine.

Hooker 2460's are kind of like the 2055s in that they use a 1 5/8" primary, however the collectors are smaller and the tubing is a heavier gauge of steel so the inner diameter is smaller.

The dual cats for the 91-92 Z28s complicate things. The 2055's will not work with dual cats which you may have stock. In fact I think as far as staying smog legal in cali you're kinda screwed. I dont think there's anything available for you. What I cant remember is if it's only the L98s that got dual cats in 91-92 or if all Z28's got them. But that is the problem.
Some guy was saying that cats dont have to be in the stock location, just installed close to the engine, but Im not sure I'd make the investment on 2055's and just hope for the best in that regard. It's stupid, they should just let you pass or fail based on whether teh engine runs clean ,but they force you into all kinds of BS over there to do anything to your car.

You can use the 2055's and remain legal because you have a single cat.
If you had dual cats you could still make it work but you'd be sacrificing legality as I'm sure whatever pipes you had made up to connect to the cats would somehow be illegal even if they do nothing different.

Re: Hooker 2055HKR vs Heedman and flowtech?
i have the flowtech headers and y pipe on my car. the headers look good but the y pipe is designed like the stock one (more like "t"than a "y" ) it seems to flow just fine but i have a leak coming from my right side header that i cant seem to get rid of. its almost like the flanges on the Y pipe are set too far apart and cause the headers to miss align. if i could go back id go with something else.
*note* i did buy the dynomax cat back and it bolted up real nice and sounds awesome! i didn't even have to remove the rear axle. it was a steal for 120 bones after the 75 dollar rebate
