meanest muffler
Hows it going guys, i just needed some suggestions for my 87 305 tpi. Im about to install some hedman shorty headers(670) and a hedman y pipe(670) and im running it straight no air tubes/ no cats, dumped. My question was when i order my muffler (ive decided to go flowmaster super44) what would be the toughest, meanest soundind muffler one thats one in one out or the one in two pipes out muffler? All your feedback is greatly appreciated keep in mind this isnt a daily driver so i wanna get the most kick *** sound possible, thanks

Re: meanest muffler
You already ordered the flow right?
Loudest one is the orig 40 series unless you go to the race series mufflers.
Its going to drone inside like theres no tomorrow and get the attention of the men in blue.

Re: meanest muffler
I havent ordered the muffler yet, so u think the 40 series would sound better than the s44. Isnt there two types of 40 series? Also if im planning to just dump it after the muffler should i get the one in one out or the one in two out?

I have a magnaflow, it gets annoying on the highway when I cruise at 2000 rpm. It made the car sound so good, that I think my neighbor went out to buy a l98 trans am.

Re: meanest muffler
Spin tech x2, flow master race, borla xr-1, magnaflow race, dynomax bullets...
Wait kick-*** sounding muffler on a 305? idk about that one, unless you got some high compression heads and a cam in there its still gonna sound like a 305.
The larger the exhaust tubing the deeper the sound. Some people use larger resonators in sections of the exhaust to deepen the sound. Go with some 3" piping to a large resonator, to a 3" muffler and you will have a much deeper tone.
But at the end of the day mainly the sound is going to be the sound of your motor.

Re: meanest muffler
@blackbmajic what resonator would you recomend? Also man im a rookie at this, were excactly does the resonator go, im guessing between the ypipe and muffler and would it sound deeper closer to the y or muffler or does it even make a difference? Also im on a very tight budget, so what head and cam package would you recomend for a beginner like myself, also i would have to get a tune right? Thanks for your input man i really appreciate any and all suggestions

Re: meanest muffler
Resonator you generally want in the mid section. Go as big as you can go while still being able to fit. It will reduce rasp and drone while producing a somewhat deeper sound. IF done with a stock exhaust it may seem somewhat quieter, with an aftermarket exhaust it will just sound deeper and better.
Before we start throwing out all sorts of suggestions for valvetrain and head replacements, we have to know you exact budget and skill level. Other wise making suggestions is just a waste of time.
Yes you will probably need a chip or tune. I build carb'd setups so I dont know much of anything about tuning or chips. Someone else will have to chime in.

On a stock engine I love the SLP loudmouth 2. People give me compliments on my exhaust everywhere I go.

Re: meanest muffler
I have tried Borla (my 2nd favorite) and thrush, magnaflow, dynomax and some others I am forgetting and spintech is my favorite. It isn't loud at cruising speeds and does not have a drone sound at any rpm. It is on the loud side at WOT and has a very racy sound like no other muffler I had ever heard. A friend turned me onto them and swore I would like them and he was right. They are different sounding than all the others and have (manners) at idle and part throttle. When I was younger an old man at a muffler shop made the suggestion to pour a quart of regular (non synthetic) motor oil or rear end grease into the muffler and coat the inside before installing it to help keep it from rusting out later on. I still do it to this day and have not had a muffler rust out since.

Re: meanest muffler
I honestly think powersticks or GMMG are some of the meanest mufflers.
Here is a quick video, wish I had a better mic
And remember this is coming out of the stock 5.7
