Pretty much the title explains it all. I would love explanations/videos files/ the whole nine yards. Just a muffler swap by the way. I don't want to get too crazy.

 

You want drone, cheap? Lose the muffler and go straight pipe. Sounds like a$$ IMHO but to each his own.

Well to get it done with a set of decent tail pipes around here cost that much.

 

What you may be referring to is a CAT back. Thats usually a 3in. intermediate pipe leading into a crossflow mounted muffler and includes the tips.

3 inch y pipe

Add 3 inch in and out cat if you need one and custom 3 inch pipe out the pasenger side ahead of the wheel or out the back done. Cheap free flowing mean sounding.

 

i have a single 3" glasspack under my car with a beat up 4" Magnaflow stainless tip poking out in front of the right rear tire... sounds mean, no drone, total investment of about $50.

of course i'm also running Hedman long tube headers and a home made 2.5" Y pipe, so that might affect the sounds a bit.

 

The Hooker Aerochamber catback, fairly cheap.. 3", no drone, mild idle but angry at WOT.

What series are you going with for the Flowmaster? Like someone mentioned above...they can be drone city for sure. I run a Flowmaster 40 Series on my 82 327 with a 3" pipe. When it's idling outside, every window in my house is vibrating. It sounds like a muscle car and believe me, when you are driving around with this exhaust, you get tired of the drone. Everything in the car vibrates, you can't hear the radio and it's about equal to listening to subs with heavy bass all the time. Once you get out of the car, it takes a while for your ears to adjust again.

 

I was thinking the 2.5 inch 80 series. Have any idea where to get them cheap ?

 

Ebay, Craigslist, etc... Most guys buy them and can't stand the drone. lol


One thing that a lot of people don't think about is browsing the local junk yards, around here mufflers are $5 no matter what it is. I grabbed several 80's, a few Magnaflows and a few others off of 3rd and 4th gens (even a complete true dual system once). Back in college i was re-selling them for $50 each.
