Stock Muffler Questions
Welp, my dad has owned his '84 Z/28 with the LG4 since about '87. The muffler's guts have rotted out but the case is solid. I wanna know, does anyone make a reproduction muffler that's the same as stock or should I weld new baffles in the old case? In that case, where could one find drawings or pictures of the stock guts?
Is there any difference in mufflers on Z/28s over the years or will they be the same? Because, if anyone wants to get rid of a set of stock the same mufflers that are good or are sacrificial, let me know.
Thanks.

Re: Stock Muffler Questions
I think the Dynomax is the closest looking to original. The tailpipes are very close, but not exact. I had one on my last car, LG4 with factory manifolds and cat. I did not think it was very loud. The tailpipes tuck up under the bumper nicely.

Re: Stock Muffler Questions
Yeah, the car has two mufflers and didnt come from the factory with cats. Its an '84 Z/28 with the LG4 and 700r4. This is going to make it a pain to find mufflers, isnt it. :/

Re: Stock Muffler Questions
The reason we want to keep factory mufflers on the car is originality. The car's exhaust hasn't ever been changed, everything is numbers matching, etc. If anything is broken, 99% of the time it is replaced by a GM part. We like modified cars and realize our isnt worth much but its just like a rolling time machine which others can be measured.

Here is the post from the history section, about a stock muffler restoration. Chazman did a fantastic got this old stock muffler looking almost new. I know that the muffler is different than yours, but a great example of what can be done with old parts that some think are worthless.

Unfortunately, my stock exhaust rotted away from the inside out. Patch a piece here, cover a hole there, but eventually the thing literally fell off the car.
