Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
I have made one with the magnaflow for a friend. Sounds veeery close to SLP.
I need to put up a poll on who would be interested in a SLP like cat back thats 4" in and dual 3" out... It would be great for the higher HP cars. I have talked with some people and have been told that they can do it in those sizes.
Win or fail ? What do you guys think?

I might be interested in that... My exhaust has a long way to go before I worry about putting something behind the axle though... I wanna have all the rest of the puzzle pieces in place before I spend good money on exhaust, but eventually, it will be 3" ORY to 4" single out over the axle.
Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
I think the bigger size would be great but also making a 3 inch would be good also. The 3 inch would sell more but the 4 inch would be a great option for someone with a high hp stock looking motor and wanting an slp style exhaust. Its definitely unique

Tell me more about the Magnaflow you made. Did you bend the the exhaust tips yourself?

I'd be interested...
One of the local guys (mid atlantic f-body) had one on his fourth gen formula... started with a mufflex 4", which he thought was too loud and replaced it with a 4" in, 2x3" out and welded stainless tips on it, I really liked that setup.

Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
I had a muffler shop put a Magnaflow in place of my stock unit. The Magnaflow had a better tone/sound to it, but was overall quieter than the stock setup so I could barely hear it unless I stood behind the car and somebody else played with the gas pedal. I had them put in a Flowmaster as a placeholder, which basically sounds like the stock setup only with more volume from idle through 3500 RPM. Not bad, but not the best, either. This is with stock N10 dual cats and manifolds.
What I was thinking of doing was a GMMG 2OTL, but it's pricey to cut a GMMG system apart. The guy at Madhammer said he could replicate the SLP 2OTL but with a Y-Pipe into 2 GMMG-style Chambered Mufflers. I may try and get two Chambered Mufflers and see if a local shop can replicate the 2OTL.
As you can see, it shouldn't be that complicated to make a similar system where the Y section brings both exhausts out the left side. What will take some work, though, is ensuring it hangs and looks just like the SLP setup.
Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
Sweet glad I found this thread. I have also been looking into this idea didnt know many others were interested in doing the same thing as I have been planning on doing and looking into options for. For the record I would be interested in the reproduction of the 2otl catback exhausts. I am considering doing this idea to an SLP C4 muffler. The only thing I am concerned about is I want to be able to open the inlet size to 3 inch. However I dont have much experience with exhaust fabbing etc. I am curious as to whether or not I can have someone open the inlet of the muffler to 3 inch. I would assume it could be done as long as its a straight through design muffler. Can this be done? and does it matter what type of design the muffler is internally to replicate a 2otl and have it functioning properly?
PS: Sorry for bringing this one back from the dead. However I am interested in getting more info on this topic because the SLP 2otl is a sweet looking cat back IMO.

Look for strait thru muffler on the original muffler ...wen u look thru the inlet u can see how from one 3inch it turns in to a V shape inside to come out 2pipes by 2 1/2 ...u can't by the original thing unles u find one at wrecking yard ...but I think lots of company's make similar muffler ...so just by 3 inch inlet don't go thru the hassle stretching ...also u need stainless muffler to duplicate sound ...stainless is very hard metall no stretching there
Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
Next time I have a project car which needs an exhaust, I think I'm going to piece together a replica 2OTL. I'm glad I was able to get an SLP unit for my '83, it looks and sound great! But it's time consuming and pricey to find and purchase an SLP part. And in the end, you're getting a muffler that has probably served on several other cars over the past 2 or 3 decades.
Re: Who has made their own 2OTL and how did it sound?
Charlie, if you ever do another exhaust, let me make you a 2OTL. These aren't that hard to make. The bends in the pipe to come under the bumper cover are the hardest part, I'd have to have at least one weld joint in the bend somewhere, but I could polish it down and pretty much hide it. Nothing you'd see unless you got under the car and looked.
I also think it would be cool to replicate the 82-83 style dual muffler setup using proper diameter pipe and good mufflers and mandrel bends.

Would be cool if someone could replicate them and sold them on this board. I would have a shop replicate them if I had a set I could give them to for reference from. Also along with the fact TTOP350 stated, about the talpipes in the pic sre for the 4th gen, there are also 3 or mote different variation of the tail pipes for the 3rd gen over the years. If we could get a reply to this thread with pics of all the different variations that would be pretty helpful. It would be nice to have them all conveniently located to use for reference along with maybe even the time frames in which they were produced each way as well.
It doesn't look exactly like the original; but it is very similar.
I used to have the 2otl set up on my old 97' formula. It looked cool & sounded fantastic. I just lucked out on a used SLP 2otl set up from an SS camaro. I hope to have it installed soon!
