I have an 89 rs, I just got a new muffler and it is so quiet. I hate it! How can I make it louder without having to get a new muffler?

 

What kind of muffler did you get?V8 or V6

Other than installing a cut out you will need to replace the muffler you have. They call it a muffler for a reason. Its what determines how lowed the car is. There are other factors that play a role like pipe diameter and the size of your outlet/tips pipe but its the muffler that is your problem. The Flowmaster 80 series is one of the loudest out there if you like the Flowmaster sound. (not everybody does ).I found this video that has the Flowmaster 80 and definitely has the Flowmaster sound. =

Is it a DD? Loud gets old real quick. My car is obnoxiously loud with the Powerstick and I love it but I'd shove a screwdriver up my nose if I had to drive it everyday.

 

Ya I hate the sound of that second video, I want it to rumble not sound like a full out race car.

 

what is your exact setup? I like the powersticks a lot but I don't want it quite that loud.

 

Add power. It will get louder.

 

Drill a few holes in the muffler but you won't probably like it much.
If I could make my camaro quieter without losing HP I would.

Dyno Don built my exhaust system at his shop from the heads to exhaust tips. 2 Magnaflow Cats, 3" catback and a Magnaflow muffler. It's quite loud but I only drive it on weekends and club outings so not too bad.

 

Yeah I wish my car was a good bit quieter. Loud is for people who cant go fast. If you go fast you dont want to be loud. Every time I hear a car that's way too loud I assume it's slow. You can always tell, anyway, by the way the engine sounds whether it's slow or fast... and most of the straight pipe crowd have those peanut/RV cam smogger engines with that horrid pulpwood truck sound. Pretty much any stock cam'd sbc is going to sound horrid with a muffler like that.

 

Hooker Aerochamber muffler. Relatively quiet around town and when cruising but lets people know when you get on it. I personally can't stand the "Flowmaster Drone" that happens at cruising speed. I ran them on my 67 Camaro (Dual exhuast with 40 series) and got so sick of it after using the car for a summer as a DD I went and bought the cheapest turbo mufflers I could just for peace of mind.
