Re: OBX Headers
never heard of these, have the hooker shortys on my sbc 305 & have hedman long tubes on sbc 355 on 78 TA, both work great except the hedman's tend to get leaks often/flange is thin, never a problem w/hookers

Re: OBX Headers
Do you have to modify anything from the converter back? In other words does the rest of the exhaust stay stock?
Thanks

Re: OBX Headers
No, I had a magnaflow catback system to go with this. Just for now I have a strait pipe, but I will be buying a high flow cat shortly. As for the headers, you won't have to modify the driver's side header, but the passenger side header may need some modification to get in. You can grind down the a-arm mount or dent in the outermost longtube. I ended up slightly denting in the tube.

Re: OBX Headers
Does this come with a y pipe? I do not see how the set up of these headers would get over to the factory location of the convertor? How do you like the Magnaflow set up? I am looking for a bolt in set of headers. Hopefully these work if I can get a y pipe with them!!!!
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: OBX Headers
It's too loud to be driven with a straight pipe and an LT4 cam. I ended up ordering a magnaflow high flow cat tonight.

I put the hooker shorty's in my 87 t/a and had no issues at all, i only got the hookers cuz they were the cheaper option when i was shopping for headers 6-7 years ago. they still are working great, just a little surface rust from the 3-4 years of daily driving. thats just my $0.02

Re: OBX Headers
I'm not an exhaust expert (and i don't mean this to come out the wrong way) but don't headers kinda go off the theory of fast flowing and zero turbulence when the exhaust is leaving the engine, causing it to flow easier and quicker. I know folks would say that denting in the header tube would cause turbulence therefore not good.....just like the intake runners. I had bought some longtube headers originally but found out they wouldnt work without modifying the subframe (smashing in a dent to make room for the collector)

Re: OBX Headers
i gotcha, i was just always in the understanding that denting the headers is a big big no-no.

Re: OBX Headers
It didn't cause any problems at all. I have been getting some vibrations on the driver’s side pipe, which wasn't dented in. I think I installed the motor mounts the wrong way, so the driver's side of the motor sits slightly higher than the passenger side. Because of this, I don't have enough clearance between the driver's side header and the transmission mount. Occasionally, it'll vibrate the area under my seat at idle.

Re: OBX Headers
The chinese turbo header I bought is stainless, of good quality, built well, etc. I've been welding on it for the past two days making alterations and it's nicer than my SLP headers that were made in new jersey.

If companies want to be competitive with asian markets they need to sell products for a reasonable price. If people want a 'wage they could live on' stay in school and get a good office job.

The guy that works at my local McDonald's drive up window does a great job handing me my bag of food as well. That doesn't mean the job is worth more than minimum wage.

Re: OBX Headers
From what I can tell, the quality is the same as the turbo headers I purchased which is fine. Better than SLP's.
If you do buy a set, please report back.

Re: OBX Headers
I've been using the headers for a few months, and they are very nice for the price. They are a decent knockoff to those $1000 stainless works headers for our cars.

Re: OBX Headers
I've had OBX on my 99 Z28 for almost 5 years. They have held up very well. They have turned a neat looking blue, but no leaks, warping, or complaints. I got a NIB set for my 83, if they hold up as well as the ones on my 99, I'll be super pleased! I also got a set for my Vette for christmas, I look for these to be good too.
