Powerstick setup

So this is what im thinking for my stock 85 z28 with the 305. (ya I know im not gonna get power gains, I don't care its for sound)

Stock from the cat forward, I want to install either a short or medium powerstick classic chambered muffler after the cat in the straight part before the axle and then duals after the axle to two 3in tips.

Couldn't find anyone with this exact setup, yes I did search.
DOES ANYONE RUN THIS SETUP?? I want it to be pretty damn loud but not obnoxious and I think this will get er done.

One more thing, stock exhaust pipe size is 2.5in correct? so I would need the 2.5in inlet/outlet powerstick and the 2.5in inlet tips?? Thanks in advanced.

Re: Powerstick setup

Sounds like the system you describe is similar to the SLP Loudmouth (what I have). I have the resonator a few inches after the cat, then it splits into duals right before the axle.

I think the stock exhaust is 2 1/4" but I'm not 100% sure. My '84 Z28 was and I'm pretty sure I measured 2 1/4" on my '92 Z28 after I cut it to put the SLP on.

Re: Powerstick setup

IIRC, the OE intermediate pipe on my LG4 was 2.25, the after market was 2.5 and amazingly the OE L69 was 2.75.

It might be to close to your driveshaft.

Re: Powerstick setup

UPDATE system is now complete!!!
Custom cat-back with a classic chambered powerstick muffler. The system is a single pipe from the cat into the short powerstick muffler, it then runs single to behind the axle and splits into duals like a "T" the duals with 3in angle cut tips out the back.
It is very quiet at idle. Inside noise is virtually non existent. I have not heard the car from the outside yet accelerating, but friends say its not too loud but not too quiet.
I purchased Jones exhaust tips ($32 for both including shipping from summit racing) and the short powerstick from classic chamber's website (about $65 plus shipping). And I had it all installed along with completely new piping from the cat back at my local muffler shop for $120. TOTAL FOR THE SYSTEM WAS ROUGHLY $230 installed.
ill get a video up soon. Thanks!

Re: Powerstick setup

I did this with shorty headers y pipe and 3" catback on a L98. Sounded great. I have two on my 99 ls1 just before the tips under the bumper and it sounds amazing as well

I maybe changing that cars design due to new exhaust design i am working on. The power sticks have a unique throaty sound for most vehicles and seem to be better further back you mount them. This sound is nice but not what i am looking for now so hence the change
