OBX Stainless.

So I had the Dynomax for the win earlier thread going on, and that idea soon became much harder than I had intended it to be. So i was reading around and I wanted something kinda cheap, but looked and sounded good. I saw the OBX and thought why not. So It got here today, and everything fit perfectly! No problems whats so ever. I'm just hoping the exhaust shop can fab up a Y pipe for it. The other 2 exhaust places in town are shotty, so hes the last chance. So By the end of tomorrow or midnext week, ill have my new exhaust. As soon as i find out to post a proper video, you'll get a before and after vid. cant wait to hear it!!

Re: OBX Stainless.

Did you get the OBX system that is like the SLP Loudmouth? A resonator or bullet-type muffler in the mid pipe that splits to a Y over the axle into dual tailpipes?

I've been looking at that exhaust, wondered how it sounded and fitted. The Loudmouth II system is an actual bullet-type muffler, the Loudmouth I is just a resonator I believe, and is very loud. I haven't heard the Loudmouth II, but it's supposedly a little more under control.

Curious as to how the OBX sounds. It looks like a cheaper alternative for a decent exhaust. I always wondered how this system would sound with chambered bullet muffler in place of the resonator, or even WITH the resonator, resonator moved up to where the cat would be located. I removed the resonator on my GTP and it sounded like crap, but that's with a 3800 six cylinder. Guess it needs a resonator for the exhaust to get the "deep" sound that V8's naturally produce.

Dunno how a moderate performance V8 with headers would sound with both a resonator and a muffler. Anybody experimented?

Let us know how it sounds, and post some pics up when you get to the muffler shop.

Re: OBX Stainless.

Its got the special 3rd gen style muffler, like for the magnaflow, or the flowmaster catback. Ill post some pics and a video before the new set up, hopefully my goal is wednesday to have it done. The only true thing holding me back right now is the serpentine belt deal and deleting smog, i have read that sticky a gazillion times but every time i got to napa or shucks they dont have it, and the have ones in similar length. Im contemplating on just getting the smog delete pulley possibly, but i like a clutter free engine bay since i already have enough crud in there. a/c, charcoal canister, smog stuff. But a/c is gonna stay for DD'in.

Well i got a 96.25' belt so i think that should be short enough to use with out the smog pulley.

Re: OBX Stainless.

Alright some good and some bad news!! Good news!! The exhaust its damn sexy! and definitely opened up my gurl. like launching 2500 rpm first and second burns on a open diff 3.08s. pulls harder, raspy murican muscle sound, (as much as a 305 can get for being stock) I believe an honest 20 horsepower was gained. It's quiet at idle, but sounds mean at upper rpms. Once the fiberglass wears out a bit it'll be a tad louder. So Heres the bad. The pump is stil on, but nothing is on it, so still clutter. The y pipe the guy custom made ended up being almost as much as the 2.5 or 3' y pipe from summit so I'm a tad bummed about that. He did 2 1/4.. And At turn of key start, the car will jump up and down idling like 200-600, like it has a race cam, and sounds sweet, but does it for like 5 seconds and then idles normal, then at 3,000 rpm-3500 it studders, like... not at full throttle, little throttle. like slow pull through first gear till max rpm for first, right at those rpm is shudders the car. Its slowly getting better, but im guessing its the o2 sensor slowly fixing the mixture.
Should I
A) Get it tuned to run properly
B) Keep watching it and eventually it'll fix itself
C) Drive to the nearest floor dyno, and get a custom burned chip for my car, or
D) Order a good tbi od chip thats build for an exhaust mod for my vehicle.
But other then that I am happy! Sounds good, looks amazing, and perfect clearnace!!! Ill get some pics and vids of before and after hopefully as soon as i can get my computer to work with me.

So there was a couple vacuum lines unplugged. But its still throwing the SEL on me. I'm assuming its because its running lean now. So should I get a chip or get it tuned out to normal? And by normal i mean for that setup. I've seen the HOT TBI guy has a nice 17 hp chip for 175 thats made for header back exhaust, and a less than 195* stat. Any ideas?

Re: OBX Stainless.

Okay So I finally got around to getting some pictures while my ride was in the air! this is the obx stainless. Sounds pretty decent. I give it a 7.5-10. Price for quality is about a 8ish as well. And it sounds a lot better now with my Vortec 350. Heres some pictures and I'll get you a couple videos this week! What do you think??

Re: OBX Stainless.

Tips hide about 1/4 to a 1/2 behind it. it's tucked nicely to, pretty evenly spaced below the bottom of the bumper. You'll have to finangle the intermediate pipe a tad getting it over the rear end and such. It's got a melow idle for the first month or give or take how much you drive, then it opens up a bit after you drive on it and sounds nice. heres a video of me at the drags. But for a decent price it's pretty good! i will b selling the whole exhaust here in a couple months as my slp LM2 just got sold out from under me, so i'll probably buy a brand new set.
