Need Help with OBX Exhaust on 91

Purchased an OBX exhausy off ebay the other day. Direct fir for a 1991 Camaro. 3" pipe with 3.5" tips. The converter flange is to large. it has an all stock 5 liter. Are we missing something? Is it just the wrong system?

It's called getting what you pay for. OBX products are crap and never fit well. Take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld the correct flange on for you. If you try to return it you probably won't get half of your money back after shipping and restocking fees. I believe your stock flange is 2 1/2 in.

Probably made for a 3" cat. Get one, then realize the inlet to the cat is wrong, remedy that with a better y-pipe, at that point you may as well go all in and put headers on. Or follow the more affordable but less enjoyable advice above.

One small problem? Well we got lucky and had a friend that did an exhaust on a camaro and he had the small pipe for the converter from 2 1/2 to 3. Now the rear passenger hanger is not of factory location and no matter how tight I made the bands the pipes just slip apart. You're right that OBX is Crap. Total sorry I let my son buy it!

If you could go back in time, I would've recommended buying the hooker 3inch catback system for our cars. It's in the same ballpark in price, fits nice and sounds good.

They have a couple different styles. You have to find the correct system for your application but this will give you an idea. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/hok-16823hkr

Re: Need Help with OBX Exhaust on 91

Well after running to autozone for stainless u bolts and making a hanger we got it installed. Just have to adjust the passenger side tail pipe as I failed to notice that it was slightly crooked. Son not happy with the sound. We watched freaky's video on utube too before we purchased it. Oh well atleast it looksnice!

Re: Need Help with OBX Exhaust on 91

Honestly I wouldn't consider an incorrect cat flange a big deal, esp. since headers/y-pipe/3" cat is probably needed to take advantage of a 3" cat-back. If you're looking for a nice sound, the dynomax 2.5" is quite nice IMO. There's no way you need a 3" cat-back for performance with stock headers. I would actually be upset if I got a nice 3" cat-back and found that it was restricted with a 2.5" cat flange.

Re: Need Help with OBX Exhaust on 91

I plan on getting a good video up of the exhaust running on a lift at work. I read a post of a member in the netherlands that is running a obx on a ta and compared it to a magnaflow. his car looked like ut had some work done.

Re: Need Help with OBX Exhaust on 91

I got the quad-tipped 4th gen version of this exhaust and I really like it. Fitment was great, the supplied clamps do suck though, and I like the sound. Just had to make a pipe to connect my downpipe to it which was no big deal.

I was amazed how quiet it made the car vs open downpipe considering the muffler is more or less just a glasspack with a bend in the middle.
