350 bored .60 over with flattop pistons, 041X 64cc heads (compression ratio???)with 2.02 1.6 ss valves. 272TL-6 comp cam and performer intake and quickfuel 750DP carb. Only gonna turn 6500 rpms max but would I need to use longtube headers or would my shortys do the same? And are longtubes louder than shortys?

Shorties will fit better.

Auto or manual?

3" catback will be fun unless you're pushing 450hp+.

Long tubes aren't a good fit with autos becaus you lose half of your ground clearance. There just isn't anywhere to tuck the exhaust. It can be done but the gains aren't worth it IMO.

Re: what headers and exhaust setup for best performance?

I just installed hooker longtubes and had to do quite a bit to make them fit. Hooker has really slacked off on quality control. Personally, I will never waste my money on shorties. If I am going to do headers then it is longtubes or nothing. Matter of fact, all my vehicles have longtube headers. No matter what you decide, make sure you have a good y pipe setup. Stay away from crossflow mufflers if you are looking for the best flow possible.

I run hooker long tubes with a custom fab 2.5 inch exhaust through dynomax bullets. Yes I lost ground clearance but in 15 min I can have an open header car.
Don't rake to much to fit. Trim the k member on drivers side and rebemd some brake lines.

Strange, my driver side fit without problems clearance wise. It was close but would have been fine I think.

I had to notch the k member right by the control arm mount then move the brake line for the rf wheel. Both headers rubbed on it. That could be from running the old original motor mounts tho.
