New exhaust!

Hey guys...drove the `89 to a muffler shop and it's getting a (mostly) new system as we speak. He's undoing the damage that the PO did and making it right. Surprisingly, he is going to be able to use more of the system than he thought so that should save a few bucks. I'm going with a Dynomax Ultraflow 3" muffler. Should be quieter than the blown out flowmaster and hopefully won't drag on the ground!

I'll try and get a pic or two. I'm excited and had to share!

When it's done, a sounds clip would be great.

Will do!

They did an amazing job. New high flow cat, I-Pipe, y-pipe, air tube, muffler install, and misc labor came out to $600. I'm very happy.

If you are from the Phoenix area, I highly recommend Mighty Muffler on N. Cave Creek rd.

Re: New exhaust!

Glad you are happy with the results. It's nice always easy to find a shop that will take the time to do a quality job.

This is all off of the original L98 manifolds, right?

Yessiree! I'll go headers some day, but for now, I want everything working they way GM intended.

I think it sounds great. Mellow. Maybe too mellow! LOL

Not saying muffler shops are "no good", you got "ripped off", or anything of the kind; just, as EEEEEEEEEEZY as these are to put on yerself, paying somebody else to do it just doesn't make much sense.

Re: New exhaust!

I've done complete exhaust system installs and if I had the whole thing, you are right, it is easy.

In the case of my former "exhaust system", I have to disagree. My "exhaust system" was an absolute mess. With what needed to be done, I would have saved very little money and spent hours on my back, most likely at night. Not fun.

I always do my homework when it comes to deciding on whether to do the work myself or not and it was pretty much a wash in this case. I also hate dealing with exhaust manifold studs and they took care of those for me and eliminated all the leaks. I'm happy.

Not to mention that whenever I want to work on my car on the weekends, I pretty much have no choice but to hire a sitter since the wife works a lot of weekends. It probably would have cost me more! LOL

Re: New exhaust!

Thanks for posting that. It does have a nice mellow sound.

For approx. $160 labor over the (sofa) listed parts, and to not fight a rusty exhaust system laying on my back...I'm in. I HATE exhaust work more than just about anything else.
