I need an exaust for my 89 rs since my sister ripped the old one off with her excellent driving. I came across this on Craigslist for 100. I have never seen one like this and wanted to check with the 3rd gen pros b4 I made the purchase. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Looks custom. As long as it flows well (the bends aren't crap) should beat stock, but it's not duals from the cat back it looks like. You may just be better off buying a new one for 300 more or so. It'll go together easier, look better, and undoubtedbly last longer.

Looks like factory 82's-ish take off. I bet a cork would flow better.

Yea he said it came off of his 84 z28. I thought the way it t's at the back seemed like it would restrict flow. I tthink i will save my lunch money and get a flowmaster American thunder instead.

Flowmaster has a very distenced sound all of its own and there are guys that like the Flowmaster and there are guys that don't.
There are other mufflers that will flow better than the Flowmaster 80 Series muffler but on my DD it really does not matter.
The Flowmaster 3" American Thunder CAT back with 80 Series muffler is what I have and I can tell you it is most likely the loudest muffler/ststem there is (using stock cars as comparison).
You will hear it inside and out.
If you don't want to hear it well inside than its not for you.

Flowmaster is hard to beat for the sound. Only exhaust ive had on any 3rd gen I liked better was Borla and ive had most of them or atleast heard them. Summit has a 3in cat-back system around $259 that sounds great as well

If you want a flowmaster just watch craigslist. I have seen a bunch in the last few years and even picked up a few for <120 in great shape. They are loud though and they drone like crazy on the open road.

Re: thoughts on this exaust
I did a little research on what causes drone.
It is specifically the sound resonance that the muffler makes at different speeds.
Manufacturers of some popular mufflers for our cars build there's taking that specific sound frequency range out of the build using different techniques.
Flowmaster is different. In order to get their trademark sound it is left in.

DynoMax Super Turbo cat back can be had for $200 new,, maybe not quite the build of other brands ,,, a bit louder than stock,, and no drone..

Adding a dynomax bullet to flow master exhausts makes them much more liveable while cruising
