American Thunder..are the gains worth the ugliness??
I was just curious if the gains of the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back are worth the ugliness of the single drivers side exit? Or would i just be better off getting a flowmaster 40-series?

hmmm ugliness?
well that is the thing i like about the flowmaster system
in my opinion, its very sleek you dont even see it if it is mounted correctly.
my 82 does not even have ground effects and its hidden.
sure you could have some huge pipes sticking out of the back
like an import or you could go with the (i have nothing to prove approach) just my opinion - not trying to talk about anybodys car i like the duals also.

I have the American Thunder 3",dual 3" outs setup (Part#17233).It's pretty loud, but I like the way it sounds.Running SLP Headers/Y-Pipe and 3" cat as well. Not much room for rear axle travel, where the 3" tube goes over it,since my car's lowered quite a bit.
Cops never take their eyes off me with this exhaust,so if you don't want to attract attention, forget it.

Im running the single out, and right now I just have the turn down. Its nice because it doesnt look like I have a nice aftermarket system, so no one picks on my slow ***
Althought it does sound mean as hell. My friend Dan (5.0 stang, no cats, h pipe, 2 40 series flows) even told me it sounded way better than he expected.
Soon Ill buy a tip at a swap meet or something, hopefully about 18" long, 3" in 3.5" out and have it welded on. I think it looks good with only the single out.

I have the slp "two on da left" power flow exhaust. goto the bootm site in sig to see pics of the rear with dual 3" tips on one side.
In my opinion, the hoemasters just arnt that aggresive sounding in the upper rpm, but sound great (like a boat) at idle to about mid throttle. My setup has the slp 1 3/4 dual cat headers, the stock 3" intermediate, a cutout, and the slp muffler. On just the muffler it gives the sound a very distinct rapsyness to it...make it sound just like a 4th gen with exhaust, and wioth the cut out open (which is all the time hehehe), I scare grown men with it, very very loud and super sweet sounding with the headers on.

The single outlet is the Force II. The dual outlet is the American Thunder. According to the techs at Flowmaster the Force II system is the better exhaust, performance wise.
I got the single in/dual out Thunder Cat-back Flowmaster system. It sounds pretty d@mn good to me. If the windows are up and if the radio is even a little turned up, you may not hear the exhaust, until you give it a good amount of gas then you'll hear it. But with radio low, windows open, it sounds real good (you can hear what other people hear). I must admit it is very mellow and low at idle, almost can't really hear it. But push the gas while gettin say on the highway, you'll scare everyone from that aggresive growl! I think it would sound better with headers (but I think I might get a cd head unit and SFCs instead). BTW, CustomX, your car is reeeaaal nice! What are these cutoffs you have? where are they located? how much are they? some details.
