Air system piping is stuck hard in the exhaust manifold
Air system piping is stuck hard in the exhaust manifold
I'm not sure if I used the right terminology. There's pipes running to the exhaust manifold for the air system. 4 per side. I'm having a difficult time trying to remove these things. They are stuck hard in the manifold. I've been going at one for about an hour. Heat on, cool, heat on, cool. It just wants to round the brass head. I'm trying not to destroy it if possible because I'd like to just plug the holes off with bolts for easier access to the plugs (I don't get under cars on jack stands anymore). Any advice?
Re: Air system piping is stuck hard in the exhaust manifold
There doesn't seem to be a single bolt associated with the manifolds that isn't A. welded by rust in place B. made of an extremely weak material. Thinking about just removing the heads for better access and porting/ cleaning them while they're out. It'll probably take less time.

Does the engine run? If so, fire it up & let it warm up. Those manifolds will get HOT. Then try getting the fittings out (be careful to not burn yourself). And don't put "bolts" in those holes. Use 1/2"-20 Allen head plugs....

Yeah, that's the first thing I tried. Soaking them all with PB for a week to see if that'll assist at all..
Bolts, plugs, what's the difference if it seals? Plugs are so expensive though they do look a lot better.

Because bolts look like crap, and the plugs I bought were not expensive...

I'm quiet poor and we're falling on even harder times these days. The manifolds aren't exactly show quality anyway. I'm just trying to get this car to the point where it's easier to work on (hence the removal of these lines everywhere), re-tap whatever I can and deal with rust to preserve it.

The fittings don't seal at the threads. You need an inverted flare plug, I think 5/16".
You'll see the flared sealing surface inside when you get one out, and the associated inverted flare fitting for the AIR tube

They actually seal just fine if you run them in until they bottom...
