Headers Question
I have a 305 LG4 engine in my SC Camaro. I have heard one of the first things to do to get more power is to remove the stock manifolds ,and bolt on some headers. If done do I need to change Y-pipe ,and rest of exaust? I just replaced current exaust from catyiltic converter back about a year ago. What type of headers you guys suggest. Need more power asap. lol

Yes, headers should be your first mod. And you'll need a new y-pipe, but most headers come with a new y pipe. And it can bolt to your stock cat-back. If you plan on keeping the LG4 and not doing to many major mods on it, then the Edelbrock TES headers should be fine. But if in the future you plan to squeeze all the HP you can or switch to a 350 then SLP is the best, but of course you pay for the best.
Just curious. I have a 92 z28 with the 350 and the g92 option and was also looking at installing headers (dual cats were already removed and straight pipes welded in its place). What will be the net result of adding headers. Will it increase the power through the entire rpm range or would it shift the power curves or would you see the bigger improvements in the higher rpm's.
thanks

I don't really know the true answer to that. But the exhaust on our cars, manifolds and y-pipe are really restrictive, so I would guess it would be the entire rpm band and allow better high rpm breathing. Headers are usually good for about 10-15 hp, which may not be a lot, but doing other mods first won't really benefit you until you do headers and cat-back for your engine to breathe.

Great. I'll try the Edelbrock TES headers you recomended. When you say cat-back do you mean the catylitic converter back? I thought about taken the converter off. Not to wooried here in PA about emmisions testing. I also thought about changing intake manifold to a Edelbrock performer. Would I have to change cam ,and carburator also? I am working with a tight budget.

You won't have to change carburetors, but you might have to buy an adapter to fit the intake to the q-jet. A cat-back hooks to the cat. You could just have a pipe in place of the cat.
You won't have to change the cam either, unless you want to get rid of the peanut cam.

Yeah cat, is short for catalytic converter. I would think with intake and headers maybe around 20 hp. If I were you order the new Edelbrock Performer EPS, it's new with higher HP increases over the existing Performer, at $30 more.

Go to www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com . I prefer Summit, guess cause that's who I first bought from. Just do a search for headers and intakes. The headers are going to run $313.
