Start with headers, or if you can headers and a cat-back. What's your budget.
SLP makes the best headers, but are pricey. Hooker is a little cheaper and also good.
As far as cat-backs, I'd say get the Hooker but I'm a little biased on that.

Geez, wish money was no object for me. SLP coated headers are around $700 I think. The Hooker cat-back will range from $200-280 depending on which part # you want. Just call jegs or summit and ask for assistance.

With the headers a good amount, just the catback is worth about 5-10 HP, headers 10 or so too, so maybe 20HP total. My suggestion get a 3" cat to go with it, dont open up the headers, then shrink odwn onto a small cat, then a 3" exhaust after that, it will choke it off. Geez, I wish I was rich and spoiled!

Do you have to pass the sniffer test?
If not, and since money is no object, go with Hooker Super Competition 1 3/4" long tube headers and a Mufflex 3" y-pipe..... Then add a nice cat-back and you will have an awesome exhaust system (The brand of cat-back is really up to you as most of the top brands will allow you to make big power. I am biased towards Flowmaster, but that is just me
.....). The main collector on the Mufflex Y-pipe is 4" and Mufflex does make a couple of 4" cat-back systems with your choice of a couple styles and brands of mufflers (I know they carry Flowmaster and Spintech... not sure what else). Check out www.mufflex-performance.com for more info on their products.
Don't mess around with shorty headers if you can afford to go with long tubes...... You will be glad you spent the extra on the long tubes in the long run.
Here is a sound clip of my car which has an Edelbrock TES (with ports cleaned up and no A.I.R., gutted cat, and an American Thunder 3" with dual 3" outlet cat-back):

I like Mac products. They make big power. You will problubly pay around $420 for their headers and y-pipe, $130 for a cat, and $300 or $400 for the cat-back. It's 3" all the way bacl, but the tips have 2.5" i.d. resonators, they can be cut off but just though I'd let you know.
